What I learned after owning an EV: it's not about battery size, it's about how fast it charges. Most bigger EVs have big enough batteries.

Very true until you reach areas with suboptimal charging infrastructure, occupied or broken chargers. For me in UK, battery in Cayenne is good enough. 200+ miles range with 20% battery in reserve. Had broken chargers or ICE occupied chargers in the past, caught by surprise as they show green on your map.

Here from BMW’s Australia official data (screenshot). 2,890 kg =6,371.359 lbs. It is a “porky,” when we thought the 5,860 pounds for Cayenne EV Turbo was ultra heavy.

As @mirto said, you have to know when enough is enough. X3 seems goldilocks in terms of range, weight and styling. Am I mistaken or is iX60 faster than iX5 60?

3.49 T is maximum load, 5 adults and 5 bags/suitcases. Some countries starting to measure weight.
Love to see 5 adults shoehorned into a Cayenne or iX5 and their luggage - it's really a 4 seater with an occasional 5th.

Let's rephrase it, 2 adults and 3 young adults. Pending gender of young adults, luggage will increase exponentially regardless duration of stay :CWL:

Yeah this is especially a big thing on roadtrips. I feel like the amount of time wasted with a car that might be more efficient but won't charge nearly as fast is made up with the faster charging time so the efficiency honestly isn't going to save you as much time but maybe a bit of money in charging itself which honestly is negligible. To me I value being able to charge fast during road trips and doing so with maximizing as much of the window of time to charge and be on the road.

Range is all about personal circumstances and speed limits. I used to drive around 600km in one stint on German Autobahn quite frequently. In this scenario any diesel powered SUV would get you quicker from A to B. Nowadays I live in UK with family. Usually we break at around 3h so a range of 210 miles at 70 mph is all I need. The Cayenne has been tested at around 300 miles range at 70 mph. Depending on safety margin, I use around 10-20%, that gives you a range of 240 miles for the first stint (starting at 100%) and 210 miles (fast charging to 80%, 10% reserve) afterwards. UK isn’t that big with good charging infrastructure along motorways. For me the battery in Cayenne is the perfect size (Macan was just a little short under ideal conditions). If I would to use a trailer, a bicycle or roof mounted rack things would start to look a lot different though. As for above comment, I think in UK number of registered EVs and chargers are on different trajectories currently so waiting time at chargers may become a reality in future.

I can see the ultra chargers starting to levy an expensive dwell fee and or charge more above 80% to free up chargers. In the UK they now pay vastly increased standing charges to the supplier which assumes high utilisation of each charger -
ChargeUK attributed the hike in fees to energy regulator Ofgem’s Targeted Charging Review, which means businesses now have to pay for the capacity of the energy they could use, rather than what they actually draw. As a result, charging companies are “penalised” for building new hubs that are rarely used to their full extent, said ChargeUK.

I did a roadtrip in the UK two years ago and I was pleasantly surpised by Gridserve. Many locations and almost all locations had 10+ chargers. Even with my I-Pace's shitty charging curve, it was a great roadtrip.
For me, a man with a family, anything above 100kWh is just too much really. I'd be dragging around the heavy battery uselessy. A 70kWh battery, getting 350km range with 80%/90% and capable of charging in 10 minutes, would be optimal. In the Netherlands tax is weight based, so the impact of a big heavy battery is also financial.
