The Model S has been on my radar since 2011, but all these years they've somehow managed to put me off.

In 2011, it was unclear when the Model S would arrive.
When it arrived in 2013 it was very clear that this was a first generation product that needed more development.
As they continued to develop the Model S (around >2015), it seemed that they were finally ready for the masses... but many build quality issues and fully booked service centers proved otherwise.
Since then I have been very skeptical.
The last major update looked great, but still: a yoke, no stalks!?
For two years they didn't even offer a normal round steering wheel?
I think they must be deliberately offending the (conservative) car enthusiast with these quirky things, or is it just me? I thank Porsche for building the car I wanted.

Tesla has always been about trying new things.

As a consumer, some are ready to something new and see how they might like it, some are not.

The yoke was indeed a joke, but the turn signals and shifter are just new and different. I'd have no trouble adjusting. YMMV.

Agree with the shifter, that’s not a bad idea. But the indicators are a bad idea for the same reasons the yoke is. Europe has roundabouts, try indicating while turning, for example. ?

I just don't see this as an issue. If your hands are at 9 and 3, but the wheel is turned 90 degrees, activating the turn signal stalk will require removing your hand from the wheel. How is that better?

I understand that's what we've all always done, but how is it actually better than keeping your hands on the wheel and activating the signal with your thumb?

I see you posting in various Tesla threads on this forum and it got me wondering... Do you have a Taycan (it's not listed in your profile, but your Tesla is)? Are you planning to buy one? Or are you just a Tesla investor posting here to try and protect your investment?

I've been considering a Taycan for a long while - don't have one now, but continue to be interested in larger EV sedans, including the Taycan.

If I were smarter, I'd have taken the money I paid for my first Tesla and bought TSLA instead! ;-)

Because you need to think and sense what button to press? There’s no tactile difference to differentiate them.

It’s nothing new, Ferrari implemented it differently by putting the left indicator button on the left side, the right indicator button on the right, you never need to think which button to press. Tesla’s implementation is just silly.

I guess we're just gonna have to agree to disagree on this.

Seems more intuitive and closer to what we've always done to continue using the left hand for all signaling than to remember to start sometimes using the right hand... ?‍♂

Never get why these Tesla owners keep having to justify every stupid thing Tesla does.

Looking at your post history, it is all about Tesla and how wonderful they are. Aren't there enough fan forums for you to profess your love of Tesla there?

If the wheel is turned 90 degrees that means you already turned. Too late for a signal. Seriously i don’t remember ever turning the signal on while the wheel is already turned, probably because my hand naturally touches the indicator before the wheel has any angle on it if my intention is to signal.

We have lots of small roundabouts where I live.

The Tesla indicators would be an issue as you need to 'feed the steering wheel'. You don't just keep your hands at 2 and 10.

If you go 3/4 way round a roundabout you have to change indictator from right to left mid way. That would be almost impossible with buttons (pic).

Meanwhile VW are moving back to buttons and switches after public backlash.

You compare a short range restricted thumb with 3 long flexible fingers? Are you sure, you are not just another dumb T junk fanboy unable to think outside the bubble for the lack of owning a real EV?

I have now owned in the past 8 years: MS90D, Roewe EV and still have Taycan 4S+, Zeekr 001 (140kWh) and EQA 250+.

The more traditional the usability of the car inside is, the better it is!

In that way the EQA is the best of the cars, because it has physical buttons on the steering wheel, below the main screen, between the seats and a seperate button in the drivers door for the trunk. If it had a large battery like the Zeekr, and a larger trunk, it would be the best EV ever.

Touchscreen usability on a handheld device is marvelous, no doubt. But dumping this tech everywhere else to make it look modern, is simply stupid!
