Indeed, plus the engineering challenge of adding a second motor on an axle that already includes a multi-speed transmission would also be significant.
Porsche likely didn’t think it would be worth the effort.
3 motors vs 2 is immaterial.
Parse it any way you like; the fact remains that the Turbo GT lags Lucid, Tesla and evidently Xiaomi in overall EV drivetrain capability.
That doesn’t align with the rest of Porsche’s DNA…
Well said.
It’s interesting to me that the Taycan Turbo GT’s top speed is either 180 or 190 mph, depending on trim.
Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire both achieve higher top speeds and similar or better acceleration despite not having a 2-speed transmission, which suggest that their motor...
Seems to me that a large percentage of Macan drivers I see are soccer moms, which likely means that the Porsche badge was among the most important purchase considerations.
And yes, most of those are base models, so the fact that a Macan is among the least expensive ways to get a Porsche badge...
True x 2.
H/K/G EV tech is at/near state of the art, with some of the fastest DC charging available in any mass-market/upmarket vehicle.
The new Taycan and Macan EV are even better in that regard, but of course at higher price points.
Where legacy mfrs also still have an edge IMO is...
And this illustrates the tricky position Porsche finds itself in as EVs become more commonplace:
-without the siren song of exceptional engines, there’s less to justify the higher prices Porsche has traditionally commanded.
-If a Porsche can’t count on its dynamics to justify its pricing...
Because heaven knows, Macan buyers aren’t shopping for badge prestige…
???
/S
The bottom line is actually that the Macan EV is 15-20% more expensive than its ICE sibling.
EVs are almost always more powerful and faster than ICEV competitors.
Many buyers wouldn’t consider ANY 2WD CUV (especially a RWD version) so that disqualifies the base Macan EV for them.
Twist it any way you want - the Macan EV is much more expensive than the ICE version, and IMHO that is...
Which part don't you see?
Model for model, the Macan Electric is $12-$15K more expensive than the ICE Macan:

That's ~20% of the purchase price, which is significant difference to many buyers...
#1 encouraging all the other groups in addition to its own efforts is the likely answer.
The fossil fuel industry profits amount to almost $3 billion A DAY.
The answer is always "follow the money"...
Speaking of wadding, this is obviously just a marketing piece.
Judging by the multiple mentions of this same clip on this forum, it appears to have had the desired effect....
For it to be “humor”, it would need to be funny…
Why are you quoting Model S stuff in relation to the Cybertruck?
Cammisa’s review mentioned that it ran 11.3 @ 30% SOC, making the near-7,000 lb. truck quicker than every Taycan other than the Turbo S at that SOC. Now THAT’S funny!
