Drove the Turbo home today about 125 miles. Drives amazing, seems pretty efficient, but the Adaptive Cruise decided that it would not work. Just said unavailable, but could drive. All the sensors sem to be reading. I can see the other cars displayed. speed limiter works well to limit it but not to set it to cruise even in that setting. A bit baffling. All tips point to blocked sensors or calibration. Sensors seem fine. Gonna let it sit and see where it is tomorrow.
If any one has any thoughts, please let me know. My Taycan did not have ACC. I got a loaner with it once and it was awful. Got confused by everything, guard rails, etc. I see a lot of posts with issues, seems to be a Porsche thing, every other car I’ve had with ACC has been pretty flawless.
I should say that my delivery was delayed for a week while they tried to calibrate the “Emergency Braking”. I figured that meant the parking brake, but now realize that it’s the system that enables driver assistance including ACC and Emergency braking. They had decided that they were looking at the fault wrong and no cal was necessary, turns out they were likely right the first time and just haven’t figured out how to calibrate it.

Looks like a two hour return trip is going to be necessary. After my Taycan spent 11 weeks there earlier this year, I am losing confidence that the dealer is very competent as to the EVs. I’ve never had the slightest issue with them onnmy ICE cars they’ve dealt with. Of course a whole different level of complexity.

Sorry to hear. I have Innodrive and it works really well, not flawless but for sure usable. I have HUD as well so know immediately when Innodrive encounters some problems, like for example missing road markings. It usually takes a few seconds after activation to be fully operational. On Macan it started failing intermittently while driving and rather usual during winter month due to dirty sensors (but you excluded this already). I would say, if it doesn't work after you left car idle for a few hours, you may have to go back to dealer unfortunately. In my books that would be second attempt to repair (they already mentioned calibration before handover) so important to point this out to dealer (lemon law).

Our Taycan didn’t have adaptive cruise just the regular cruise control and the same on the 911 but my i5 has it and I can genuinely hand on heart say I never experienced an issue with this setup but I would imagine dirt and possibly condensation could cause the above, especially as part of the info gather will be from the camera on the windscreen.

This camera on the windscreen would be the first thing I would check for dirt etc, especially when you say road speed signs not recognised.

The early Macans had an issue with this, and I believe it was linked to the sat nav not being up-to-date.

I drove a Cayenne base on a test drive a few months ago in Holland, and cruise control was not available at all.

Really sorry to hear that. I also have Drive assist/Innodrive and I haven’t experienced any issues at all, it has worked pretty much flawlessly. I’d also like to add that my Macan also had innodrive with no prior issues at all (and my car had tons of issues, it was a lemon). - MY24 and one of the first batches in Sweden.

@CHP is correct that if it doesn’t “solve itself” after a few hours then you sadly need to take a trip back and check it out.
Side note: I got my car back from service last week and a day before they gave me my car back they said that “we just received a new update for the Cayenne and will give it back to you after the update”. - This might fix this issue, because I haven’t noticed anything different EXCEPT that “Drive assist” automatic lane changes when blinking is MUCH more smoother than before (felt like it wanted to ram an invisible car into the wall before).

TLDR: There has been an update that just got released last week and it might give you a solution for it.

also unless this issue persists for several days or driving sessions could just be standard porsche software faults that clear on their own

i never pay attention. to faults on any of my porsches until they “persist”

if it’s only happened once or during the same day it’s not yet a fault in Porsche world

99% of the faults i get on my 4 porsches are self clearing glitches - even my wife has learned not freak out and ignore them until they happen a few times or "persist"…

{sigh} Porsche software - but I will say it's better than it used to be…

Yeah, but in this case my wife driving a Turbo for her daily without cruise control could be very hard on my wallet and her driving record! It is crazy that Porsche does not allow you to turn off the adaptive part and give you basic cruise control which has been a mature tech for decades.

Just to be clear, I never had a problem with adaptive cruise control on either Macan or Cayenne. I consider adaptive cruise control mature and basic cruise control as obsolete (for UK). You can use speed limiter while active drive is not working. Active drive with automated speed limit recognition and adjustment works well for me but heavily relies on common sense for sign placement. On my way back from Germany they just turned around temporarily speed limit signs for incoming traffic at highway construction without covering signs. Of course Porsche was reading them so needed to shut down automatic adjustment. That’s a major problem everywhere, government comes up with new legislation making it necessary to be equipped in every car and to be active by default but no legislation for adjusting signalling as this would be costs for government. Sorry for the rant.

The inability to turn off the "adaptive" element of the cruise control is absolutely infuriating on VAG products. BMW allow you to use cruise in dumb mode, and Porsche absolutely should too. I fail to see how basic cruise is "obsolete".

If people want adaptive only, fine, but don't force me to use it.

What do you mean by adaptive, to sense a car in front with lower speed or to adjust speed according to speed limits. The later can be switched off if needed (automatically switched on by law). I personally find first scenario either to dangerous in usual UK highway traffic during the day (some simply won’t maintain speed) or requiring to much attention rendering it pretty much useless. Distance to front car can be adjusted and I think it works well here in UK. In Germany at higher speed minimal distance is a little bit more challenging. But then, electric cars are not build for long distance, high speed travel on Autobahn. Personally I am very happy with the system on UK motorways which significantly reduces fatigue on longer drives, at least for me.

When it works, Adaptive is awesome, but I had a Taycan loaner that would react to things very aggressively. Things like a guard rail or rock wall in a curve might result in the car braking excessively or slowing the car far below the speed limit. It ,ay have been out of spec but it would have been a dealbreaker for me.

It works well on UK highways but mixed bag on country roads depending on layout. City does require lots of attention but sometimes use it to maintain speed limit in low traffic (you simply just don’t feel speed in electric Cayenne).

The thread title is "adaptive cruise control". I'm talking purely about the "adaptive" element of the cruise control which senses a car in front and reduces your speed accordingly.

Fine, but why not let you choose whether to use the cruise control in "adaptive" mode, or in "dumb" mode? BMW do.

I travel frequently between South Holland to the North of England, but almost exclusively at night. The roads are quiet and there's no need for the "adaptive" element. I want the cruise control to just hold a speed and that's it. There are two situations which drive me absolutely nuts when using an adaptive only cruise control.

1) When approaching a slow moving truck in lane 1 from behind, and a car is overtaking me in lane 2. I can see based on trajectories, I could pull out nicely behind the car overtaking me to go past the truck. With radar cruise, it will invariably just sense the truck ahead of me when I'm halfway through the manoeuvre, and suddenly slam on the brakes. I have a better overall view of the situation than the "computer".

2) I'm on a motorway, only one car on the road around me (just ahead in lane 1), who appears to be doing the same cruise speed as me (around 120 km/h). Unnoticed by me, they reduce their speed VERY gradually (because it turns out they're not using cruise control). The adaptive cruise picks this up, and then my speed starts reducing. After a few minutes, I notice I'm doing 110 km/h. Had the cruise been in "dumb" mode, I would have visually seen the gap out of my windscreen reducing, and I would have known, to put my indicator on and overtake.

On the Macan you could select Cruise Control or Adaptive Cruise Control by pressing the button on the end of the stalk and then selecting in the left tube. According to the online manual there should be 2 separate choices for plain cruise or adaptive. Apologies if the manual is wrong, I use adaptive and never used cruise control. I have a HUD and so I see the speed dropping, indicate and the car checks it’s safe and pulls out.

Will need to check if that’s still possible on my i5 before it comes, if it’s possible on it then it’s in one of the many menus because it’s not on the cruise control buttons.
