The iX5 M60 doesn't even exist, and never will, so I don't know why people keep mentioning it.

There is one iX5 that has been launched so far. The "iX5 60 xDrive". Next year, the "moderately sporty" M Performance model will be launched, and that will be badged "iX5 M70".

In 2028 there will be a full M version of both the X5 and the iX5, and both will be badged "X5M".
I am so confused right now, tbh. This is a photo from the configurator.

What are you confused about? That's the X5. It's not the iX5.
That explains it, I specced the ICE-model :CWL: The website is much more confusing than Porsches own website. The ICE-model is optioned inside of the EV-configurator, so I specced the "performance model" on the options list and it switched to ICE.

Yep. ;)

If it's any consolation, I don't think you're the only that's confused.

I know I'm going to be repeating myself again, but I want to write this out as clear as possible so people stop being confused:

In summary
BMW launched the (G65) X5 earlier this year, and it has FIVE different ways of being powered, and all use the CLAR platform architecture, hence why they're all a "G65". They all look the same on the outside and inside. You literally pick the powertrain you want, but you're essentially getting the same car irrespective of what fuel you use. That means ICE X5s have a big empty gap under the floor where the batteries would go on a BEV.

The five fuel sources are:

ICE (petrol)
ICE (diesel)
PHEV (petrol)
BEV
Hydrogen fuel cell

The ICEs and PHEVs are badged "X5". The BEVs and Hydrogen are badged "iX5".

It's a bit difficult to see on the phone, but the configurator switches to X5 when you choose the M option, even though you start with the iX5. That got me.
Configuring the iX5, I get to 127k when comparable to the Cayenne S. That would be a 20k price premium for me if I were to buy new.

Of course. It's not even close.

It would certainly explain why you got the spec to the price you did. The ICE X5 *does* have an M Performance model on sale already, which has a base price of €130,000 in the Netherlands, and that is indeed called the "M60" ("M60e", to be precise), which is a PHEV.

Just to clarify. The only iX5 on sale at the moment is the 60 xDrive. It is not sport orientated at all, other than you can add the M Sport package.

Next year BMW will launch the iX5 M70, which is an M Performance model (M "light").

The year after that, BMW will launch the full M version of the iX5, likely to be called "X5M Electric".

The iX5 may be quieter, but I can tell you that the iX3 is extremely noisy on the motorway, something that was also picked up in road tests.

BMW launched the ICE/PHEV X5 side-by-side with the iX5, and they share the same CLAR architecture. In terms of the X5, the "sporty" M Performance model has been launched, and that is called the "X5 M60e", but that's a PHEV. Unlike the iX3 and the X3, BMW decided to launch the latest X5 as an ICE/PHEV/BEV all sharing the same platform.

Agreed about the iX3, I had originally one on order but when I got to drive the demo car which was the M/Sport Pro on 22s I found it both noisy and harsh over imperfections which probably the latter would be sorted with the adaptive suspension, that said the Macan isn’t the quietest either and based on how much quieter the Cayenne was over the Macan I reckon the iX5 will be a significant improvement too. BTW this is hearsay but I was told the M70 version will have close on 650ps.

I have my Cayenne S Coupe for just two years so I’m hoping that some of these other exciting cars will be available to try before that time comes so I can place a deposit and get by the time the Cayenne is moved on.

Talking about Range Rovers' lack of protection against CanBus theft, someone I know had his top-of-the-line fully specked Defender OCTA, got stolen only last month, parked on the street in Mafair, London. Never recovered!
Did they try looking in Albania?

Yes, it's stupid, but it's working as it's designed to. The only "M model" available to buy at the moment is the "X5 M60e" (a regular model with the M Sport trim package isn't an M Model). Therefore, when you choose the "M Model" option, it switches to the only X5 model available, and that's not an iX5. In the future, after they've launched the iX5 M70, it will switch to a page where you can choose further between the X5 M60e, or the iX5 M70. Further on from that, you will have the X5M, and the X5M Electric. (Apparently, BMW will not be calling their full M models iX5M, or iM3. They'll be branded simply X5M and M3, irrespective of them being electric).

The whole reason this is confusing is BMW insisting the X5 line-up is one unified model despite having different nomenclature (X5 and iX5). Merging them together in the same configurator even though they have different names is wrong. It doesn't help that on the BMW homepage where they list the cars, they're separated as if they're different models.

The i3 and the regular 3 Series is even worse. Unlike the X5, they don't even share the same platform, so there's literally no connection between the two. The name's are different. The architecture is different, yet they share the same configurator.

I suspect it will have closer to 700hp (probably slightly more).

When you look at the iX3, the 50 xDrive has 469hp and the iX3 M60 xDrive has 612hp, an increase of 143hp. The iX5 60 xDrive has 578hp, so no way will it just have an increase of 72hp.

The iX M60 has 659hp, and the iX5 M70 will have a chunk more than that car considering the iX 60 xDrive has 544hp compared to the iX5 60 xDrive having 578hp.

That’s interesting to hear, I was told an improved version of the iXM60 but I didn’t realise it had almost 660ps, I thought it was 640ps so that explains where my mistake was coming from. I hope you are right and to be honest at almost 3 ton it will need every one of those ponies to get this thing moving like we would expect a M-lite BMW should.
