Not to the public, but I drove it as an employee and god damn, it's sweet. I loved every minute. Interior is superior. Loved iDrive. The ADAS system is very Tesla...
so your masters in Munich sent you out to troll competitors forums?

The guy in charge of those grills was picked last during childhood games.

HAHAHAHAHAHA FUNNIEST EVER!

But to be honest, I need to agree with the OP. I bought a 2022 7 Series, because my wife was missing the comfort of our S-Class compared to the Taycan and it's barely acceptable how big the grille is. on the i4 it looks like somebody pranked you in believing it actually looks like this....

Why do you need a grill on an electric car? You don't have an engine to cool.

EVs should look like EVs, not try to look like ICE machines. Tesla gets it, Porsche gets it with the Taycan. But there are so many others that think EVs should look like an retro smog generator. Even the Audi e-tron, which I happen to like a lot, has a grill where it doesn't need to be. All the grill does is increase drag and lower the overall efficiency of the car.

I miss the times when the grill was an aesthetically pleasing way to design the airflow entry for the cooling/engine. If there's no airflow, there shouldn't be a grill.

I find it amusing how many companies have the "form follows function" quote somewhere, and then you look at their design and it's filled with a bunch of useless gimmicks and "form to impress and look cool".

You're missing the point. The grill has little to do with anything other than branding for BMW. FWIW, mission accomplished.

As soon as you see those monstrous kidney grills you know exactly who made the car.

Chinese market loves these big grills. Being that China is every OEMs dream, Im certain this was the target audience

Sure, I get that. I just don't agree with it.

I used to love BMW design and their cars in general. The E92 M3 is still one of my all time favorites, I should have never sold it... And yes, those cars definitely shaped the grill to be the typical BMW shape.

But there's a difference between a functional shape that is influenced to reflect brand, and one that exists almost entirely for the brand.

At this point, it's essentially a caricature.

Over the years I owned 5 cars made by BMW. 2021, I simply didn't have a good product to buy. I drive their E60 V8 today and driving it is as fun as the Taycan, albeit a much older car.

They used to be the discrete car that takes you fast(est) from A to B. People wouldn't know what that is, the perfect gateway car. I even accepted the fact they mostly had a pallete of black&whites. Then came the mass production. You were still able to find beautiful designs and excellent cars (previous 6 series or the current 5 series are still exceptional). This history ended tragically. The current designer of one of the most famous German cars decided that form precedes function. And that bling-bling gimmicks matter to their buyers. Not this buyer, I left the brand and will probably never return. Their iX grille is not only oversized and lacks proportions. It is also cheap, that texture is not a real 3D texture, it is.... PAINTED.

you are comparing apples and oranges. one is a SUV the other one is a 4 door sports coupe.
my recently acquired Ipace has a large grill like appearance, I think it looks great

I had an iPace for three years until this January, loved the looks ? (and still do, also loved the car barring charge speed) but that grille is nowhere near the size of the Beamer ones, especially the iX. The BMW grille could actually be used as a grill ?‍?...iPace one also at least has the excuse of an air curtain in the design. Think the perspective of your photo also makes it look proportionally bigger than it is.

Audi and BMW seem to currently in a "Grille Off" , competing who can have the biggest brick wall at the front of their cars.

they must have upgraded the charging speed because on the ride home from the dealership I was over 110kwh at an EA charger.
the car isn't going to be road tripped and only charged overnight at home so any charging speed issues are moot for me

Was opposite for me, mainly long road trips though so long as stuck to ~10%-80% wasn't too bad. Yeah they seem to have made some slight improvements to the charge curve (not enough to shout about but welcome all the same). Looks like the 3.2 software update today should be decent if it fixes the PiviNav crash (I had touchpro but just loved using CarPlay tbh) and cool they've added "what3words" support in the Nav too.

How big is the beaver grille?
Porsche Taycan for size comparison.

Car interior is amazing, beyond luxury; sadly the grille kills it for me.

Is the interior nicer than the Taycan? Feel and materials wise? From pics it doesn't look that way. Very curious. On the market for replacing the fam's Cayenne Turbo SE eventually.

I wouldn't say nicer, but interior is way more futuristic. iDrive 8 with the massive screen looks better thant the Porsche infontainment, and it works faster.
