    Rivian shocks with R2, R3, R3X reveals! $45K starting price, 0-60 under 3 secs, 300+ miles range

well, to be fair, after you started with "very weak brakes", maybe 3.3-3.8 is plenty already ;)

Tesla Cybertruck beats 911 while towing a 911

I must have missed that one. Everytime I read about safety & Tesla, they seem to do quite well. https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/tesla/model+y/46618 https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/tesla/model+s/47760 https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/tesla/model+3/37573...

    interesting contrast…Lucid air inventory "deals"

Typical Silicon Valley "follower" case study. Hire some ex-<first mover> people and assume that magically the same growth will happen. How many companies that are led by ex-google, ex-apple, ex-tesla, ex-spaceX leaders suddenly become leaders in that same field again? IMHO just goes to show...

    interesting contrast…Lucid air inventory "deals"

I think demand is softening substantially across the board. You can pick up a Rivian off the lot / within 1 week if you're willing to go with existing inventory. Both Lucid and Mercedes have some really good deals on financing, and Mercedes also gives you straight xxK off MSRP deals. Porsche...

Porsche Panamera vs Taycan - Test 3 Shoot-Out! | Fifth Gear

I don't get it. It's not that hard: try to make it as apples to apples as you can. Same driver is a must. IMHO, they should actually even put them on the same tires. Drives me nuts when you find out that one was performance summer tires and the other on M+S all-weathers. Complete waste of time...

    BMW i4 M50

No kidding. I don't think "garbage" captures the full extent of the crime. I wonder whether the designers in charge realize just how badly they shat the bed. There's a long list of older bimmers that have their loyal fans. I doubt anything in the last decade will have any real following...

Man discovers $80K truck takes 4 days to charge at home - Links

On the other hand, we do charge our Model X with a 15amp 110v outlet in our car port just fine. On longer road trips, we stop at a super charger. But the 40-50 miles we drive on an average day in the 'burbs can easily be done on a 110V. (The Taycan gets the garage spot with the L2 :) )

    Road-trip planning: Taycan vs. Tesla

In my personal experience and opinion - it's very binary. Either I've planned in a lunch or dinner stop anyway, and then it really doesn't matter. Even at 150kw, the car is typically done way earlier than I am done eating. Or, I'm stuck near some big box retailer I would normally never go to...

    Road-trip planning: Taycan vs. Tesla

As an aside: when I realized that many of the EVs that bundled EA "free charging" don't charge faster than 125-150kw, I feared that slow cars hogging the 350kw stalls was going to be a pain. I think it's worse than "a pain". I can't rely on getting >150kw on the Taycan because about half the...

    Road-trip planning: Taycan vs. Tesla

With my Taycan, I carefully plan trips and often still get a nasty surprise. Just 2 weeks ago I spent over an hour trickle charging in the middle of nowhere because the EA charger would not do more than 30kw. And that was after I called support to reboot the charger after it crashed to a console...

    Rented a Model Y

Suspension-wise, you'd have to compare the Model Y to a Macan. And, while the Macan is better, it's also no Taycan IMHO.

    The New 7 Series BMW

Given that China is BMWs biggest market by far, I suspect they are designing for what they think folks in China want. Whether that matches actual Chinese tastes is a different matter. (source:https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/01/12/china-bmw-sales-2021/)

How big is the iX grille?

Sure, I get that. I just don't agree with it. I used to love BMW design and their cars in general. The E92 M3 is still one of my all time favorites, I should have never sold it... And yes, those cars definitely shaped the grill to be the typical BMW shape. But there's a difference between a...

How big is the iX grille?

I miss the times when the grill was an aesthetically pleasing way to design the airflow entry for the cooling/engine. If there's no airflow, there shouldn't be a grill. I find it amusing how many companies have the "form follows function" quote somewhere, and then you look at their design and...

BMW i4 M50 v Porsche Taycan review - The world's best fast EV? [Autocar]

Not only were they each given 30 cm, they also ditched lots of common sense/best practice and were not told to make sure their 30cm has any sort of transition to the next 30 cm :)

BMW i4 M50 v Porsche Taycan review - The world's best fast EV? [Autocar]

Not a good sign for sure... but on the other hand a single test drive can give you a good or bad outlier in pretty much any EV. We'll have to see what this looks like once people actually own them and have driven say 10k+ miles. Drives me nuts when media drives a car for 100 miles and declares a...

BMW i4 M50 v Porsche Taycan review - The world's best fast EV? [Autocar]

As a recovering BMW enthusiast, these new BMW cars are sooo hard to watch/see. Their design is just atrocious. It looks like a really bad tuner trying to make something like a BMW by sticking an overly large kidney grill onto the front. Ignoring that thing for a second, the rest of the car has...

Mercedes EQE looks better than EQS

How Biden has been ignoring Tesla & shaping legislation to subsidize traditional OEMs with tax payer money is just depressing. Why did we need a UAW handout in a bill designed to improve infra and fight climate change?
