The US configurator for Drive Assist for the Macan EV 2027 model has a greatly improved Drive Assist option available through Porsche Connect. It is not available on the 2027 Cayenne nor the UK Macan and Cayenne. It is an extra option and looks to be a trial as it can be withdrawn at any time.

Not sure why they have chosen the Macan and not the newer Cayenne. It applies only to 2027 Macan’s as it relies on the driver monitoring camera and the 2026 and earlier models didn’t have that fitted.

I’m sure a few of the US members will not be too happy with being excluded. Presumably the UK and Europe are excluded due to the lack of mapped road segments. If they become available then the Cayenne should get it as it has the hardware.

Hands-Free Assistant (additional experience available via the Porsche Connect Store):

• Customers selecting the Drive Assist option are eligible to experience an additional Hands-Free Assistant feature by separately activating it in the Porsche Connect Store, at no additional cost. This experience may be discontinued at Porsche’s sole discretion and affected customers will be notified.
• Hands-Free Assistant enables customers to experience hands-free operation in the vehicle’s own lane on eligible and mapped road segments, provided that surrounding conditions allow it. Eligible and mapped road segments may change over time. Hands-Free Assistant may be limited or unavailable under certain conditions, including but not limited to weather, construction zones, tunnels, road conditions, and the use of certain eyewear.

I genuinely don't understand in the desire to have cars drive themselves. Not trying to be argumentative or controversial.

I had a free trial on my new iX3 for a month. Activated it, used it for five minutes, and then never used it again. It baffles me why people prefer a computer to be in charge rather than themselves. It's far from making the journey less tiring. I found it deeply disconcerting. On top of that, I love driving.

Probably a test run for future implementation over the rest of the models. I doubt there's any specialized HW in place.

I suspect where you are makes a difference. In the US, if you're doing a cross country road trip, that can be 7 consecutive days of driving 7-9 hours each day at 60-80 MPH. There are some parts of the highways in Texas or Montana that are almost perfectly straight for hundreds of miles.

Having done a week-long road trip around Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona in 2018, I can certainly attest to the long distances and straight roads.

@Wivenhoe - saw this as well. German manufactures skipping level 3 (to expensive, Mercedes stoped offering it) and go directly to level 4. Porsche is partnering with Mobileye so not sure what this is all about really. Kind of odd to reserve the right to withdraw at any time.

@Throb - I like driving myself but UK highways are simply just boring. Even my wife admitted after coming back from Germany, 70 mph feels like standing still. No offence, but don't see the point of driving myself on speed restricted highways. Netherlands is even worse during daytime nowadays. Such a shame as their highways are among the best.

I get pleasure simply from the process of driving. It doesn't have to be about speed. I live 15 minutes from the Dutch/German border, and I have been known to take my R8 for a high-speed blast down the autobahn (I have a video of my doing an indicated 317 km/h), and even to the Nordschleife, but I also find coasting down to a speed limit, and nailing it, satisfying. I like getting out of the car after a long drive and knowing I did a good job. I take pride in doing everything that comes with driving, perfectly. The placement of my car on the road, indicating, braking. There are increasingly limited ways to get pleasure from driving, so I'm trying to make the most of it! The thought of a computer doing everything for me is horrifying.

Dutch roads are the best I've ever driven on, but then they have extremely high taxes on cars and the roads. My annual road tax for my Cayenne will be around €2,000.
