HD Matrix lights

There was a lot of discussion about HD Matrix lights but comparison to standard Matrix wasn't convincing. I ordered HD anyway as I found Matrix (HD not available) on Macan inferior to my previous cars. Drove on motorway yesterday night for first time, wow, it's an amazing piece of kit. The illumination of your lane (really, really accurate) is always on and frankly brilliant. It's not just a gimmick, I found it rather helpful and less tiering. Illumination of street signs is the best I have seen so far. In front of me was a M5 so could compare directly. Country roads were too busy to see advantage. I can only compare HD to Macan standard matrix, but well worth optioning if you like to drive at night.

They work but I don’t think they are as quick as the ones in the BMW because last night twice I got flashed by oncoming traffic, plus not a fan of the way it switches from dip to full beam, again the transition is on the slow side.

Can’t knock the quality of the full beam and its coverage which is excellent.

Do you have HD? I had exactly that problem with standard matrix on Macan. As mentioned above, drove behind latest generation M5 on middle lane. Mine adjusted quicker, BMW illuminated all 3 lanes whereas mine only middle lane and signs were much, much brighter with my lights.

I had the i5M60 and genuinely their switch from dipped beam to full beam was almost instantaneous but the HDs on the Cayenne do this weird fill from the sides inwards or is it outward, can’t remember as it’s only the once I have driven at night. Like I said above twice I was flashed from oncoming traffic and I can’t recall this happening before with the i5 but the quality of the full beam is next level, super bright.

That's an interesting observation on the transition between full beam to dip. I've always found HD Matrix's blanking out to be super smooth and effective. I wouldn't have necessarily described it as a noticeable "dip" either.
I find some drivers flash as they don't understand how modern headlights work. If they don't see a definitive "dip" in your headlights, they incorrectly assume you're a knob and have left full beam on. It's not that they're actually being dazzled by them

Only used it on motorway with clear road markings once There is no way headlights would dazzle incoming traffic.

They are not incorrectly assuming anything, I am a knob.

I have Matrix HD in Cayenne. Used to have Matrix in Taycan MY2023. HD are better and faster, but... On highway I don't need them - sometimes on curvy highways I got flashes from lorries, I don't see their main lights so the car fires high beam into their cabins. It happened more often in old Matrix than in HD, but still happened. So I switch them off. On local roads they are similar. So for me the price for Matrix HD is just to high.
