I would have said OVO then Octopus but hadn't noticed the doubling of rate. A quick check on the Octopus site suggests that my Porsche Mobile Charger Connect (PMCC) isn't on their supported list from which I infer you then have to buy a new compatible one (which I won't do).

OVO communicates directly with the Porsche PCM (historically at any rate) and so it worked perfect for me. OVO require that either the car or EVSE (charger) is compatible - the Taycan was compatible so I fully expect both the Macan any Cayenne EVs will be too.

I'm EV-less at the moment but likely to return next year so not a conundrum right now for me. It would take a lot of charging to make the replacement EVSE breakeven if I were to jump ship.

Suspect Octopus rates will rise too given the price cap and general crap state the world is in.
I've done the standard Uswith comparison with actual usage data and the numbers came out virtually identical. Not sure i can be bothered with the hassle of switching right now anyway. Shall hold tight until Trump gets bored in the Middle East.
I'm very used to the OVO setup i have right now. Not learning something new is worth a few pence per kW/h

I am with Eon. I chose the midnight to 6am tariff. I fixed before Trump decided he no longer wanted Greenland but fancied stirring the pot in the Middle East. I agreed a 1 year fix at 6p and daytime 30p but (I suspect because of a mistake or the price cap) was charged 3p and 26p From 1st April.

I have used my Simpson charger with the App faultless for over a year with my Macan. 42kw is normally plenty as I do tend to charge to 80% as I don’t do a great deal of long distance journeys.

I use GRIDSERVE plug-charge - 39p instead of 89p. I’ve always found them to be fast and available at Moto Services.

Where do you get Gridserve at 39p/kWh?

Using the Porsche Charging Service Plus. Apologies, I've just checked and it's 59p now instead of 89p so still a saving. The 39p rate applies to Porsche chargers and Ionity (Porsche is a part owner with Mercedes and other manufacturers). I'm pretty sure that all of Ionity chargers are 350kw.

Apologies if you already know all this - works really well with Gridserve and Ionity as they are Plug & Charge compatible. You just connect and the charge starts and then you get one invoice per month paid by direct debit with an invoice to check about 1 week before.

You get the 'preferred rate' by using Porsche Charging Plus and you get 3 years subscription free. After that you can decide whether to pay the monthly subscription or lose the 'preferred rate'. It is so much more convenient not having to use RFID cards or Credit Cards which take up to £ 100 and take ages to return the balance.

There are other networks that you can use the Plug and Charge service at such as Osprey but not much discount but is more convenient than using RFID cards or credit cards.

Hope this is informative and not saying anything you already knew.

OK, no worries, thanks for clarifying. I'm on my fourth Porsche EV, so I'm well aware of PCS, but it's no big deal. I just wondered where you were getting Gridserve at 39p/kWh, because I knew it as 59p/kWh. 👍

From my experience, with plug and charge you always get the best discount available. I was discouraged by 89p along highways initially but it turns out you only get charged 59% with Porsche plan. I had difficulties around Lake District though (limited infrastructure, monopole). Couldn't get Porsche RF card to work ( I tried really hard until my wife and kids got into a fit) so needed to use credit card. It was a loaner so plug-and-pay not installed.

When you say "plug & charge", do you mean Porsche Charging Service? "Plug & Charge" is just a method of starting a charge. The price is no different whether you use "Plug&Charge", the Porsche app, the PCS card, or an RFID key fob linked to your PCS account. They're the four ways to start a charge and ensure you pay PCS prices.

* Plug&Charge with a PCS account installed in the car.
* The RFID charging card linked to a PCS account.
* The RFID key fob linked to a PCS account.
* Via the Porsche app linked to a PCS account.

Of course. It's very simple, but I can see there may be confusion for somebody not used to it when they get to a charger and it says "89p". I was the same in 2022 when I got my first Taycan. After one session I didn't worry again.

I had a BMW i5 for a year at the same time I had my Taycan GTS and Macan Turbo, and I would often flip between PCS and BMW Charging depending on the best rates (BMW would change their prices frequently), and I would sometimes charge my Porsche using the BMW account, and sometimes my BMW using my Porsche account.

I indeed meant the method to initiate. Since only one card is linked to plug and charge no chance for me to mix up cards in a hurry.

Also, with plug & charge if it’s a preferred supplier then you don’t have to initiate the charge - the car does that by providing details of your P&C account.

I stopped using P&C on my Taycan because the handshake took too long. Instead I got the Porsche key fob RFID and had that in my pocket. I found it easier than standing there for around one minute waiting for the charge to start.

I would always scan the QR code on the charger from within the My Porsche App. Found this method was flawless. Had a nightmare with the Charging Card once. Never used it again.
