Battery sounds like an aircraft when cooling down after fast charging

Hey guys! After fast charging the Cayenne EV at full power (300–400 kW is absolutely insane, and I'm really happy we have the infrastructure to support it), I noticed that during charging (and even for a while afterwards), the cooling fans sounded almost like a fighter jet :CWL:

I honestly can't remember if my Macan made the same kind of noise while cooling the battery after the DC-fast charging.

Has anyone else fast charged theirs yet and noticed the same thing? Just looking for a benchmark because It almost felt like the car was about to start going upwards :CWL:

I haven't charged at that speed yet but I noticed the fan when I let the car (mine is black) in full sun for a few hours. The noise is insane, I thought one of the street cleaning cars was next to me.

I decided not to leave the car in the sun for longer (I really liked looking at it) so back in the garage and activated the active battery cooling which automatically switches on once battery gets out of it's comfort zone.

So here we go, top tip, electric cars don't like hot or cold weather. Little bit like trains here in UK, let's see if it runs if there are leaves on the road :CWL:

How annoying or inconvenient is this sound? Living in Australia the sun is harsh and if the car is making loud fan noises all the time in the street, parked outside the house etc is it a bit ridiculous?

A Macan EV friend living last week where it was unexpectedly 100+ degree several days in a row, contacted me for reassurance as was surprised and concerned about the new-to-him loud fan cooling sound.

On our BMW iX we had there was a setting, specifically useful for those who garaged it and had sleeping children at night, for one to set the charging at a slower speed to deliberately keep its cooling fans’ sound at a lesser decibel.

I have seen this in the Good To Know charging. It only related to DC charging not at home AC - Quiet Charging reduces noise during quick charging by lowering the charging power. This may extend charging time depending on external temperature and battery condition. Activate Quiet Charging after inserting the DC vehicle charging plug.

A ‘feature’ of the Macan was the dust cloud created on start up when on a dusty road

Re-reading these post I remembered that on collection, in the dealers showroom, at start up it did sound as if the aircon was on full blast and the car was preparing for take off ! The salesman said they thought it was because of the enclosed space of the handover cubicle. I didn’t believe him then and after reading here, I definitely don’t believe him now.

Just to be clear, this only happens under more extreme conditions to protect the battery. It's not a problem at all, just surprising when you hear it the first time. I like to think it's good to know cooling is efficient. Maybe over engineered for base model but likely needed for turbo.
