The only one other than this Cayenne I would recommend to anyone looking an SUV that’s electric would be the new GLC, that thing with the air suspension and rear steer impressed the hell out of me. In fact it was my first choice but for the delay on delivery I would be driving it instead of the Cayenne.

There is a lot of competition in this class, many good options. Cayenne however is notably bigger if you need rear space so here in UK you are looking at Volvo, Lotus, Mercedes EQS SUV or BMW iX which are considerably older. New iX5 will be first to compete directly.

True, there’s only the three of us now at home with the other two boys married so the space for me wasn’t an issue just the timeline Mercedes were offering. One thing I am noticing with the large battery is charging at home or work, I had to jump on something and couldn’t wait for a new build so mine didn’t have the 22KW charging option that I used with the i5M60, when it’s down below 50% it takes an age to get back up. Imagine how how this will be amplified with the iX5 and its 145KW battery. 😱

Since we added two charger at work things improved but now all our management staff are in EVs and I reckon I will need to add a third one to cope with the increased demand.

Sorry to hear, you seem to be the first on this forum with major problems. Have been there before, 2 Macan EV lemons. My Cayenne seems fine so would recommend to friends. There are currently some delays in delivery/build so not sure if they identified problems with some parts. Electric cars are complex and unlike Apple, not all components are designed in house and production monitored vigorously. Chances are it will take them a long time to figure out faulty component/s. If you have an eye on a different car from different brand you like, I would invoke lemon law as soon as possible. Otherwise, I would try to swap for new Cayenne. If you need the size, there is no real competition at the moment (UK). You can spend the 5k from Trump on some nice extras 😂.
my frustration is that it doesn’t seem to be a major issue, just that they don’t seem to be able to fix it. It seems to be just software and they are just lost at how to deal with it. And have to go back and forth with Porsche with delays in getting responses. Maybe my dealer is clueless with respect to EVs.

I know you don't need this explaining, but there are people who genuinely charge to 100% every time they plug in, and they will be put off buying an iX5 because the huge battery will take too long to charge at home. These are the same people who charge to 100% at DC chargers.

If you plug in for eight hours at 11 kW, you're adding 88 kWh of energy, whether it's a 100 kWh or 150 kWh battery.

At home most people including myself only have a charger that charges at 7KW. I was only highlighting the fact that cars like the iX5 in particular you really need a home charger and keep it topped up all the time, charging at 7KW won’t harm the battery to 100% all the time it’s only DC fast charging will do that.

BTW since the temperature has dropped over here so has the efficiency, 3.0-3.2 last week is now 2.8-2.9 average same routes. Will be interesting to see how much that drops when near freezing, the i5M60 never got lower than 2.4 for me so I’m hoping the Cayenne is similar.

I think we're at crossed wires. I'm not referring to damage caused by charging to 100%. I'm just saying there are people who treat EVs like ICEs, and just charge to 100% because that's what they did with petrol and diesel cars. Just because an iX5 has a huge battery, it doesn't mean it has to be fully charged every time you plug it in, but there are people who genuinely think that. There will be people who will be put off by the 19 hour 7.4 kW charge time. They will say, "19 hours?! I get home from work and I leave 12 hours later, so an iX5 won't work for me", not grasping that you don't have to get to 100% every time you charge.

Admittedly, a car with a big battery will generally be less efficient due to weight, but if you plug in for 8 hours at 7.4 kW, you're putting in the same amount of energy irrespective of the battery size.

People just see "40%" and start getting range anxiety, despite the fact that cars with bigger batteries don't deplete in terms of % as quickly as small battery cars (assuming efficiency is roughly the same).

Why? I genuinely don't understand what difference it makes. Do you mean because it's heavy and therefore less efficient?

I'll be surprised if the Cayenne is as good or better than the i5M60. It's a 2.6 tonne SUV. I don't expect the Cayenne to be any better efficiency-wise than the Macan, to be honest. In winter, around freezing (or just below), I would get an indicated consumption of 30 kWh/100km, and an ACTUAL consumption of around 32 kWh/100km, at a cruise speed of 120 km/h. That converts to around 1.9 miles/kWh.

I hope I'm wrong.

I agree that the amount you add is the same regardless of battery but the reason I prefer to keep my battery topped up is my son left his passport behind and only noticed when they stopped midway for a snack. My i5M60 at the time had only 52% SOC and couldn’t make the round trip to deliver the passport so had to grab the wife’s petrol car. It’s those unexpected situations that I now cater for and why I keep mine always topped.

Porsche Cayenne EV Adaptive Cruise Control Issue D46CC377-FD0F-4BD6-BC23-BEEE1AA977AC_1_105_c

Only had one journey in my car so far but I attempted to use ACC which resulted in the error message "ACC not available - drivers seatbelt unfastened".

Seatbelt was obviously fastened and there were no other warnings from the car during normal driving to say it wasn't, meaning the car did know it was fastened.

Hoping this was a one-off gremlin and it will work fine on the next journey...find out tomorrow!

Oh dear, I had this in my Macan EV. Some on the Macan forum did say it may be related to 12v battery. I would do a longer drive if 12v battery is low and see if reoccurs.

Weird it would be a 12v battery issue on such a new car. I know with my Lotus the guys on the forum recommend fixing a trickle charger attachment and hook it on when not driven, I would get random fault codes until I got one and started doing this, now I haven’t had an issue since.

Mine was with Porsche dealer to fix an other problem for 3 months. Happened 2 min after driving away from dealer with apparently fixed car. Parked car at my house and let it collect from dealer. Never driven car again so don't know the outcome. Read on forum later that it might have been the 12v battery as car was not driven for a long time and 12v maybe got depleted. @1AX Others on forum reported success after charging 12v so wouldn't worry too much at the moment. Maybe have a look at Macan EV forum if it reoccurs.
