There is a lot of competition in this class, many good options. Cayenne however is notably bigger if you need rear space so here in UK you are looking at Volvo, Lotus, Mercedes EQS SUV or BMW iX which are considerably older. New iX5 will be first to compete directly.
True, there’s only the three of us now at home with the other two boys married so the space for me wasn’t an issue just the timeline Mercedes were offering. One thing I am noticing with the large battery is charging at home or work, I had to jump on something and couldn’t wait for a new build so mine didn’t have the 22KW charging option that I used with the i5M60, when it’s down below 50% it takes an age to get back up. Imagine how how this will be amplified with the iX5 and its 145KW battery.
my frustration is that it doesn’t seem to be a major issue, just that they don’t seem to be able to fix it. It seems to be just software and they are just lost at how to deal with it. Have been there before, 2 Macan EV lemons. My Cayenne seems fine so would recommend to friends. There are currently some delays in delivery/build so not sure if they identified problems with some parts. Electric cars are complex and unlike Apple, not all components are designed in house and production monitored vigorously. Chances are it will take them a long time to figure out faulty component/s. If you have an eye on a different car from different brand you like, I would invoke lemon law as soon as possible. Otherwise, I would try to swap for new Cayenne. If you need the size, there is no real competition at the moment (UK). You can spend the 5k from Trump on some nice extras.
I know you don't need this explaining, but there are people who genuinely charge to 100% every time they plug in, and they will be put off buying an iX5 because the huge battery will take too long to charge at home. These are the same people who charge to 100% at DC chargers.it takes an age to get back up. Imagine how how this will be amplified with the iX5 and its 145KW battery.
At home most people including myself only have a charger that charges at 7KW. I was only highlighting the fact that cars like the iX5 in particular you really need a home charger and keep it topped up all the time, charging at 7KW won’t harm the battery to 100% all the time it’s only DC fast charging will do that.
