Did yours cost 750 ?
Er, no. €2,055, which is £1,720, but that's the Netherlands for you. I hope that includes some kind of subscription too.

EDIT: After Googling it, it appears the €2,055 includes two years of subscription, which is normally €299 per year. That makes it a bit more palatable.

I've just had the Porsche approved Vodafone Tracker installed this afternoon on my yet-to-be collected Cayenne Turbo. I know because I suddenly got an SMS saying it was active with a password and four-digit code that the call centre asks for.

Quick question. Can you change all these things once you take delivery, or am I stuck with the four-digit code I've been given?
I've never been asked for a pin or password. They ask the reg, address and obviously know the mobile. I haven't received a call with an 'alarm' since having the latest version of tracker, as you can't drive without a fob. They may ask for that now with the new trackers.

Thanks. You really should be asked for some kind of security code.

Does the car not have a standard tracker, or is this some sort of upgrade?

The location is provided in My Porsche and you can set a ‘push notification’ if the car leaves a defined area. How reliable these would be with experienced thieves using jammers etc I wouldn’t like to rely on them.

The current version of the tracker is also an immobiliser. Plus, the police are notified, although in the UK that would probably be about as dependable as My Porsche. The tracker App has a very accurate independent location reporter so that could be used to retrieve the car.

Here in NL a tracker is usually mandatory for insurance for such high value vehicles. Why would Porsche not make this standard? Weird.

Porsche used to build their cars with a factory-fitted tracker built in, and you just had to pay for the subscription via Porsche Connect. A couple of years ago, they stopped doing that, and now they're fitted by the dealers pre-delivery. I don't know for sure if this was because the insurance companies wanted a better tracking system installed, and the best way to do that was via the dealer and a 3rd party (Vodafone) providing the service.

Porsche insurance in The Netherlands only require a tracker if the value exceeds €125,000. My Macan Turbo came in just below that figure, so I didn't need one. So, there are certainly scenarios where you don't need them. As for why Porsche don't include it as standard...it's the same reason they charge for things that they really shouldn't charge for. Money.

Strange, when I wanted to insure my used I-Pace 3,5 years ago a tracker was mandatory for all insurers but one.

Good thing I know this now, I assumed the Cayenne would have the tracker standard. Thanks for the info.
