Where exactly do they tout the 1/8th mile times?

what mold are they trying to break? Do you think trucks that are towing significant weight need to have faster 1/8th mile racing times?
Not sure where you get the 1/8 mile from anything I said. It’s all over Porsches website touting 0-60 which is what I was talking about.

As for breaking the mold the entire ethos behind the cybertruck is to create a truck from the ground up. There are is a lot of forward and different thinking of how it was engineered. Whether you like the vehicle or not they are attacking things from an entirely different approach. Also, speed has zero to do with this aspect I was talking about. Same thing can be said for the sapphire which I have a lot of respect for in the engineering in that vehicle.

Never owned and will probably never own a Tesla but I can appreciate outside the box engineering and thinking. This needs to happen a lot more. Only drive for change is through innovation.

The post about the Cybertruck 911 gimmick is about a 1/8 mile race...that they claimed was a 1/4 mile race.

Besides, the lowest spec 911 is 0.1 second slower than the mid-spec Cybertruck in 0-60. Tesla doesn't include rollout, not sure if Porsche does.

I care about results, not approach.

I found it impressive. Marketing doesn’t bother me. However, as a child of the 80s it reminds me when Volvo introduced the Turbo 240 and the advert claimed it was faster than a Ferrari and Porsche from 40 to 80mph. Marketing is targeting the kids of the 80s…remember when we were happy driving a 150hp clio Williams?

I believe they have delivered on the results. Whether or not they can scale it fast is yet to be seen. The 48volt system itself is long overdue and is a great stride forward. I don’t get the hate that is put towards Tesla or any manufacturer for that matter. Their crash safety is to me the biggest thing that is never talked about. You keep comparing 1/8 or 1/4 mile times yet say they are not important. The fact we are even comparing a sports car to a truck in acceleration is nuts if you think about it. Eleven second flat 1/4 mile for a 7,000lb truck on mud tires is extremely impressive. Would I ever take that ugly thing over my Taycan no chance at all but I can give respect to what they have accomplished.

I think the real elephant in the room is the hideous colour of the 911!

Damn, that’s gonna depreciate Taycans even further..
No, but it should raise the bar for Porsche engineers. 0-60 is one of Porsches main marketing points when comparing trims and justifying 100% price premiums, so of course people will start comparing against non-Porsches too.

It is only important to people who care if they are being lied to when they are told about the performance of the car. I get that in the post-truth world, a lot of people don't care about the truth.

No, if you think about it, you would know that that is the main trick of an EV.

I can give respect to what they have accomplished.
I don't respect people who lie or those that condone the lies.

Besides, how do you respect a company that would compare the lowest trim of one car to the top trim of their car? Or how about towing the 3300 pound car in a trailer only rated for 3000 pounds rather than using a properly sized trailer which of course would affect the results?

Porsche has never really concentrated on 0-60. It is meaningless on track days.

How does Porsche justify more than twice the price jump from base Taycan to Taycan Turbo S where you live? Perhaps Porsche differentiates the trims by Nurburgring times, skid pad G's - please share a screencap of how those are marketed in trim comparisons. Here in the US, there are 3 metrics which Porsche marketing highlights and compares between the trims it's 0-60 times with Launch Control, Launch Control max horsepower, and top track speed.

If that’s what’s important why not drive a Plaid? Cheaper, faster, and quicker 0-60. Bigger interior.
Same goes for a C8 Z06 vs GT3, Corvette wins again using those same metrics.
I would purchase neither because that’s nots what is important.

I absolutely agree that Porsche does not really promote their 0-60 times. They sell fun, performance and status.
in terms of 0-60 a 911 MT would always be the less desireable car, but is it?

While it won’t depreciate Taycans more it is a bit underwhelming that our almost 200k car can be beat by a 100k 7,000 lb pick up. It’s not the only metric that matters but it is one Porsche touts and is the major differentiator between the different trims. While I think the cyber truck is hideous it’s good to see a company trying to break the current mold.
My 4CT and even a 4S are beated by the model 3 LR. If they introduce the M3 performance it will also beat the gts. At half the price or even less. It even has ventilated seats, SuC acces, longers range, fast charging, bigger trunk and frunk. With the recent facelift it is supposed to be more quiet and comfortable. I like the Taycan. But sometimes I really wonder is it is worth 80.000 K more to me. If I change leases now I will pay 1 K less per month.

It’s fine to have your own opinion and it’s yours to have. However it’s clear that it’s based only on your dislike of Elon and not the actual product (specifically the engineering behind the product). The comparison was clearly to show how absurd it even was. To be fair that 911T far exceeds the cost of that cybertruck. I would still 1000% rather own that 911T then the truck.

I can understand this and sometimes think this way. However the Taycan to me is the sexiest sedan ever made and is so so capable on backroads for what it is. To me this makes it worth it.

Do I wish Porsche offered a performance boost for its existing customers for sure. At the end of the day this is not what’s going to make me switch. However if I have another battery failure it’s gone.
