It offers better-than-Taycan-Turbo acceleration and practicality for a less-than-base/RWD Taycan price, with longer range and better tech.
As you say it is personal choice.

I have only tried launch once in my Taycan, and probably never will again, not many traffic lights or straight roads around here.
My Taycan is big enough for my wife and I and our dog and occasional grandchild shipping.

I bought it for the ride and handling, not range.

Better tech is also a matter of taste.
I find touch screens jack of all trades and the master of the unwanted selection.
I find any automated driver assisting functions extremely stressful, like sitting next to an inexperienced driver who you have no idea what they will do next :)

The CT is on a list of one for me, :)

Why would Porsche have an EV Taycan and Panamera? Taycan is basically an electric Panamera isn't it (I came from Pan to Taycan). Certain the CT/ST variants, it would be easy to confuse then if they were parked next to each other. Or am I missing something?
Have you driven a Pano? Much roomier and more luxury focused. Very different car than the Taycan.

Had one for 10 years and borrowed a new hybrid when my Taycan went in for software mumble. Thought it was very nice, but didn't think it was really much different if I'm honest. Hence my questions!

Worth adding that my friends who saw the replacement Panamera (pretty much same colour as my Taycan) didn't realise it was a different car, just thought i'd been a chav and had the brake callipers and badge at the back painted bright yellow.

Do you really think they'll do an electric Panamera? I can't think it would make any sense unless one of the saloons was significantly bigger than the other - eg like the Cayenne and Macan.
Even though everyone wants to drive an SUV, Porsche must do the Panamera EV to have an alternative in the S/7 segment.

My Panamera is fully optioned (except Burmester) and interior wise it feels more luxurious than the top Taycan.

Taycan trunk is pretty small and less practical.

This ^. It truly is, and hence for the right buyer/target audience, all of this 'depreciation', 'vs.', 'price increases' is just noise.

What..? No, that's not how it works - if a car doesn't give a premium feel because of its materials, one improves the materials and doesn't design/tool/build and support another, 8cm longer model.

Porsche doesn't need to compete in the big, luxury saloon market, as that is a vanishing segment. Porsche sells at least double of each of these: {911, Taycan, Cayenne, Macan} than they do Panameras. In fact, in a bad year they sell fewer Boxster/Caymans - but otherwise on par.

There are BEV SUVs coming (for the mass sales), BEV sports/coupes and they have the BEV sporty sedan - aka a full range.

An EV panamera will feel a lot smaller than the current ICE - The bloody great battery has to go somewhere!

I had Burmeister in my Panamera turbo though :p. I got the standard in the Taycan - I can't tell the difference!

No way. I have Bose and I find it very weak for a 150k car, my friend has Burmester in his and its so much better.

Also the Taycan door panels look better with Burmester metal grilles.

I don’t. Ever.
I don't like driving SUV either. I can't like sports car, road noise in my AMG GT drives me nuts after 2 hours in it and 911 is no different, a ton of money for a toy car, I'll take the Panamera any day.

Taycan is great as a daily but for my ski trips is not enough space. I'll still buy one though because it looks so good.

I've gone on ski trips with 1-2 passengers many times, single or multi-day outings, and never had... OH! I see the problem - you're driving a sedan. Sorry, my bad. (Pro tip: should've gotten a wagon.)

As f1eng said, for me this car was '1 of 1' - I needed an EV wagon, and I got exactly what I wanted. I don't wish my car were different in any way. (Ok, except for the fucking rattle in the driver's door, but I.will.find.it.)

I still like it at its own class. No quality issue at all after 85t km, like a new. My Taycan is much better but for almost 3 times higher price. Value per money Tesla is still great.
You are funny! Compare to Taycan maybe, compare to other cars in similar price range: OMG!!!

Porsche Cayenne EV Taycan Prices vs. Competition 20230410_110634

  • Size of a model S
  • Power and luxury like my Taycan 4S+
  • 100kWh battery
  • 800V EV platform like Taycan
  • Better range than T and my Taycan 4S+
  • Air suspension
  • Quieter cabin than T
  • Certainly much better software then my MS90D junk
  • Much better reverse camera then my MS90D junk
  • Very good self driving features on par with T
  • Price of a Model 3/Y

So "value per money on T" is terrible.

And if you live by the mantra:

“Porsche - there is no substitute”

your comments are easy to understand.

The OP, however, sees other viable options in the market.

It’s ironic that you point to Tesla’s driving aids as a demerit, both because they’re so easy to disable if that’s your preference, AND because less than 15% of all Teslas sold have included their bullsh*t “FSD”.

Having driven both, there’s no question that the Taycan offers more refined ride and handling.

There’s also no question that the new Model S is no slouch in that department, and that it’s more practical while at the same time being 50% less expensive than the Taycan version that offers roughly comparable overall performance.

“Personal choice” indeed…

I am also quite amused to read tests here and how much better the Taycan still is compared to other EVs (800Vs is a big thing here if you drive fast).
3 Chinese EV manufactures moved on to 800/900V platforms.

You have chosen to completely misunderstand, or misrepresent my point.

Firstly, this is the first Porsche I have considered which I have ended up buying, I found enough wrong with others I tried to buy something else.

The idea that for me “Porsche there is no substitute” is so wrong it is hilarious, I actually laughed out loud.

The reasons why there are no options for me is that most EVs are SUVs which I detest and have never had any use for.

Of those actual cars having a tailgate, to get my dog in, was needed. I found Merc EQS, Tesla S, Taycan Cross Turismo and BMW i4 iirc at the time I looked.

The Merc was needlessly big, I only need rear seats for grandchildren, I am not a chauffeur with a big fat boss to fit in the back.

I had considered the Tesla several times since it was available here but the control interface was awful and I thought it too expensive for what it was. Your concept of it having similar performance is very US-centric, our roads are nothing like yours and comparing cars as dragsters is not appropriate here.
Acceleration in a straight line from a standstill is not a performance attribute I consider AT ALL when evaluating the performance of a car.
Any auto driving was not a demerit, it just had absolutely zero merit. BTW does Tesla have a classic cruise control option - ie constant speed? My old car had only adaptive cruise and it almost always over-reacted in an infuriating way, one of the good things about the Taycan is it has a normal cruise control as standard and I was able to not have adaptive or their self driving thing. Maybe these things are a benefit on congested motorways but I almost never go on those.

The BMW had only just come out and I didn't get to try it, I had already decided the Taycan CT was the best car I'd driven by then and I doubted the BMW would be impressive enough to change my mind, based on my BMW M3 experience - it did have the major advantage of being available in green and with nice non black interior possibilities.

You also seem to assume price is the main choice criterion. It does seem to be for a lot of people but to put it in perspective 5 years ago my shortlist was a Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo hybrid and a Toyota Prius PHEV and I chose the Prius as more suited to my requirements. Price had not been high in my list of priorities then or now.

So yes, The Taycan Cross Turismo ended up being the only car suiting my requirements. If I hadn't bought it I would not have bought a new car at all.

I am in French Alps with family of 4 on 1 week skiing holiday. In a saloon!!!!
Rent skis so no need even for roof box!
Only ski once a year so cheaper to rent than to buy and SO MUCH LESS FAFF.
Put skis on roof if you need.
No mess in car.
I don’t even have ski hatch as I want the back seat to match the front in with 18 way and more room for the 2 passengers.
I even had room for essential supplies.
Gin Campari and Martini Rosso for apres ski Negroni. Charger in ski station a bonus.
My mate has the FB CT4. Just gives him an excuse to bring stuff he doesn’t need.
