Don't you just 'luv' management speak - 'socially responsible reduction of 9,000 jobs', those being made redundant should feel it makes society better.

An article says that Porsche is also exploring the possibility of an SUV in the D-segment positioned above the Cayenne. Seems like they are following Jaguar and Range Rover where they see the Chinese not being successful and generating the greatest profit - very expensive models in the D & E sectors i.e. SUV's and Exec / Sport cars.

The January has been launched and the base version is £ 130k / $ 130k so expect £ 200k+ in reality.

One thing I find positive is that they are finally deciding to stick with what they know, which is ICE cars. Porsche is a sports car brand; if you want high margins, just keep doing what you're good at. It was like when Mate Rimac said in an interview that Porsche and VAG executives wanted him to make the Bugatti Tourbillon an EV instead of listening to their customers, which would have been a disaster.

Porsche is an emotional purchase, so it is good that they finally understood that (reducing) emissions isn't equated with profit.

It isn't as simple as that, as there are "fleet" emission targets which have to be met, otherwise Porsche will have to pay big fines.

Agree, but I am seeing it from an additional perspective to that.

They followed the emission targets instead of doing what they did now with the t-hybrid system which was investing in R&D that would develop better (read: more efficient) engines for their core customer group instead of putting all their eggs in the EV-basket.

Especially for anyone who knows how the automotive industry works, big companies like VAG have about 5 (or more) years of “set” development which they can’t back out of, so it really was a swing and a miss.

The mandate seems to have become a moving target. The UK has said hybrids will be allowed post 2030 but haven’t defined what they are - some plug-ins can travel well over 50 miles on electric but say Toyota Yaris hybrids can do 1 mile.

I suspect the European manufacturers have been reassured the 2030 mandate won’t apply so are piling back in on ICE hybrids as they will reduce the ‘fines’ against cars like the 911. Porsche are continuing to say the EV Boxter & Panamera will be launched so more reduction in cars effected by the mandate ‘Fines’

The way things are looking in the UK I think they will increase the road tax on ICE’s as a punishment for not going EV and then increase the mileage rate EV’s will pay and so the spiral continues.

It all depends on driving dynamics. If Boxter EV doesn't get too heavy, and that's a big if, 911 may be in trouble. Performance wise (at a similar price point), EV and combustion are no longer playing in the same league but new ICE Macan may proof me wrong.

Did you get the opportunity to try the 911 t-hybrid?

It blows almost every EV I've driven/seen out of the water both emotionally and acceleration-wise. The tech is from F1 and is in supercar territory which is next level imho.

Yes, was driving latest GTS and I was totally disappointed - I was driving it in the city though. It’s a race track car, much prefer standard 911 for daily driving. Sound and looks are brilliant though. 0-20 mph for sure not GTS territory, after that the car becomes alive.

Except it’s not faster in acceleration than the Cayenne turbo electric…😎

I agree with you, haha! Driving in the city is not the optimal thing for the GTS. But on B-roads or on track it is really insane.

Yeah.. can't argue there, haha! Not sure though how the Turbo S does against it, would be interesting to watch a video with that:D

Look at Carwow reviews, ICE SUVs are no competition in terms of raw speed. Handling shouldn’t be so different either. I think one members has Cayenne Turbo and Lamborghini, so would be great to hear his opinion. ICE in most countries and for usual customers are on their way out. Car enthusiasts for sure will prefer ICE for now. Same for me, I prefer 911 over Taycan, but wouldn’t swap my Cayenne for Panamera or ICE Cayenne. Once batteries get more efficient, smaller and lighter, they may dominate the sport car segment as well.
