Matt. It’ll be interesting to know how the installer actually fits - I’m still waiting for Porsche to provide the installation / cabling details for their camera - not sure if that is only on the Coupe or SUV as well.
When are you having your camera fitted? I am like you, don't want to mess with third party electronics. They tend to use any excuse like tracker in previous car. Glad tracker was installed by dealer otherwise I would have been in trouble. The main reason I went with the Porsche dashcams was because UK support said if there were electrical issues the warranty for those Could be voided. I didn’t really believe it would cause a problem but a few early adopters of alternatives on the Macan forum were experiencing some issues with alternatives. I was mostly concerned about the possible drain of the 12v battery but late realised that was unfounded. I went with the Porsche one on the Cayenne as it was a gift from the dealer as I left the one in the Macan.
Are there any tricks to removing the plastic overhead console trim pieces to access the wiring for the front cam? location of the metal retention clips, and hidden torx screws? The front pre-wiring definitely exists in the usual place.
I started hunting for the rear pre-wiring which wasn't in 'the usual' place so it would figure that the connector is hidden somewhere short of the camera location and requires an extended cable.
Frustrating when I've already bought a Porsche Dashcam and it's essentially now a plastic brick. Not as if they're cheap either and no doubt there will be further cost for the software update and cable. Taking the ****!
