Not added thermal insulated windows in cayenne ev

I didn’t spec the thermal insulated windows as my dealer said no other cars in their Australian dealership has it and it’s not a popular choice. He said the cars are already very well insulated and quiet because they’re an ev.

Anybody experienced the cayenne ev without the thermal insulated windows? Is it a night and day difference? Most of my driving is between 40-100kmph

The EV will be quieter than the ICE equivalent - that's a given.

The insulated glass offers more security should the glass be broken to gain entry as the film layer doesn't break / tear as easily.

Ultimately the car will be quieter when vehicles pass but road noise emanating from the footwells will still be present and so tyre roar will still be heard.

I can't think of many downsides other than cost (and cost of replacement). On the Macan EV you lose the rear wiper as an option if installed.

Please option the insulated thermal glass. If you don’t want it on both the front and rear, then at least tick the box for the front. You are spending a decent amount of money on a car that is treated as a daily, and you WILL feel a huge difference once you actually experience the car with and without the insulated glass. Porsche is great brand, but the sports car essence shows in the insulation without these options, and it sounds a lot more without it.

Also, please note that the glass is heat-resistant as well and will be the same type of glass as the windshield. I have three kids, and I must say that with the thermal glass, it could have been 35–40 degrees at one point and the heat just bounced off like it was nothing. There are really only upsides.

In short, don’t listen to your SA. There isn’t a single person on any of the Porsche forums who has specced this option and regretted it. The difference when driving is just too big to neglect.

I had opportunity to drive my 2024 Macan Ev Turbo w/insulated glass back to back with a Macan 4 EV loaner with out insulated glass…

both cars were whisper quiet but every time I got out of my Turbo w/insulated glass and into the loaner without -if I was driving highways speed the noise level in the non-insulated glass EV was ever so slightly elevated wind-noise…it sounded like a window was cracked vs. the insulated glass EV…

both are more than acceptable but the insulated glass EV was just that next level of quiet

basically for me it came down to wind noise at speed - and at 50 mph + the wind noise was a bit more present than in my Turbo…

I've been a Porsche victim since 2008 - 12 Porsche's owned - 6 ordered - 6 bought off the lot -it's cheaper to get the way you want it than to order it again from scratch…

All the comments above are about noise. However, nobody is mentioning that this is "thermal" glass too. And for that reason, especially if you live in a sunny climate, you should order it. I have had dozens of different Porsche models over the years and for everyone I configured myself, I ordered that option. And for those Porsche's I acquired pre-owned that didn't have that option, I had to go to a car wrapping specialist to have infrared window film installed, for there was an exceptional difference in how the car got extremely hot on a sunny day, both parked and even while driving it without the IR protection. The Porsche option also provides UV protection, which is critical to avoid sun damaging rays on your skin and upholstery. Without that option, only the windshield offers any UV protection, as does the moonroof, but not the side or rear windows. It is a must have option for sunny climates.

For those of us in the States, the use of radar detectors is common. I checked the configurator a few minutes ago with the hope that the construction of the insulated glass evolved since the last Cayenne I bought three years ago. It does not appear it has changed. The description still says:

Note: Thermally and noise insulated glass may reduce mobile phone reception. Please refer to the owner's manual for details regarding proper toll road device placement.

I can fix the heat resistance with after market nano ceramic tint. I need to be confident that my radar detector signal/reception is not compromised by the insulated glass. I cannot avoid a speeding ticket without slowing down. It is a Porsche so that is not going to happen.
