This post is for USA (maybe Canadians) residents. The expensive HD Matrix Headlights (USD 1800) are said to be worthless for us because of archaic governmental rules but now Consumer Reports says this will change for the Cayenne. I cannot vouch if this is correct and wonder why Porsche would then still say the following in the Note:

I can confirm in Canada we now have full matrix enabled.

In the US it was finally made "legal" in 2022, however the actual specifics are so unique and different from European and Canadian laws most European manufacturers still choose to simply deactivate them for the US market. Rivian is making US-compliant Matrix though.

On the configurator the key word to look for is "matrix -design'. Design = dummy matrix.

In the US, and have now paid for these 4 times! But not again.

Overheard in Stutgart "They don't work in the US, we tell them they don't work in the US, and they pay for them anyway! Is that great or what?"

You will save but remember Matrix Design Lights are standard equipment regardless for NA and so you are effectively paying for something that is functionally deficient regardless as the individual LED switching is disabled and all LEDs are treated as one. Difference between standard Matrix and HD-Matrix is the number of pixels (obviously). 32,768 per headlight on HD and only 84 per headlight on the standard matrix setup. In truth., non-Matrix LEDs with PDLS+ should be offered to save a few shekels but unfortunately they aren't.

If you add the premium pack then re-think as this will bundle HD-Matrix Design (sneaky or what??).

Note also that there is a physical appearance / cosmetic difference between Matrix and HD-Matrix which may / may not be of interest

One minute ago I just sent an email mentioning shekels 🤣

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not getting the premium pack as I want to avoid the powered sunroof which adds about 30 kg at the abosulte worst spot. Plus, wife not at all interested in the passenger screen.

I think you are save with the extra 600kg weight of the lower floor battery ;-)

Thank you @Winge. I still don't get why so many people in the US click that $1,800 option.

For fun, lets say you spec'ed every option you could afford- that you had reached the max you would want to spend on a new car.

And then you wondered, should I get these headlights, or, something else? Because you could get any of the following INSTEAD of matrix design headlights at the same price or less.

Dreams Paint Choice

21” wheels

Comfort Seats

Adaptive Seats

Surface Heating

Vented Seats front & rear

**** Rear Axle Steering !!!! *****

Sport Chrono Package

Remote Park Assist

Drive Assist

4 zone climate

Bose Surround

19.2kw onboard charger

On my current BMW iX, I specifically opted not to have the sunroof - weight being one reason, and the other - in the summer you need more aircon and in the winter you need more heat! Also, when they are open, they are noisy. I struggle to see the point, but they do make the interior a bit lighter

Did you opt for the thermal insulated glass?
