And I do realize the above calc ignores rolling resistance, friction losses like seals and other power losses like steering, HVAC, ETC. Those are basically "in the noise". The second largest loss, rolling resistance, is even more favorable than the aero.
Here's some calcs:
2026 BMW iX XDrive 45
EESM front and rear motors
SiC inverters
Front motor not used during cruise
100.6 kWh gross battery capacity
94.8 kWh net battery capacity
338 miles 70 mph real world tested range - aggregate of three tests (journos and YouTubers)
7.7 ft^2 CDA (this is...
It is fully possible. Will Porsche do it? I have no idea but I sure hope so. So far they have not used EESM's but who knows. Another method to improve highway efficiency is to use a multi-speed gearbox like the Taycan rear motor. This is why the Taycan has great range on the highway...
The numbers are mostly laid bare but I'll try to expand a bit:
Powertrain Efficiency is based on BMW's EESM + SiC inverter. The coefficient can be back calculated. This technology has been in use since 2024 in the iX. An EESM (Externally Excited Syncronous Motor) is more efficient for...
Here's some fully achievable numbers based on an Boxster EV:
0.25 CD - this is reasonable. A Taycan is 0.22. A Cayman EV should also be 0.22
Not a skateboard platform. Battery behind seat. Doable now with modern energy dense batteries. This preserves lower height which aids driving position...
This doesn't add up and I think my order is for sure delayed but they're just not admitting it to:
Original Order Plan:
5 May lock
14 August deliver to USA
Now:
25 May new planned lock date but dealer says "who knows it could happen sooner"
30 June complete production in Slovakia so only 5...
So I visited my dealer then the order locked 3 days after planned. Good enough for me so long as the delivery date doesn't slip appreciably. Weirdly, the dealer told me my delivery is now sometime in July (that's earlier than planned) and the lock date is not real and I can still change...
I agree on not wanting hearsay or spurring purchase cancelations. How do we explain that my order "locked" earlier than the original promise from Porsche then unlocked immediately after the 25% tariff was put in place and since has been unlocked beyond the original planned lock date? So...
Lot's of uncertainty. If @benjaminbutton is correct then it is still plausible because my order timing was for August 14th delivery which I think would've been the second shipload to USA and your order is the first shipload. The cutoff point has to land somewhere. Once I waited in line at the...
Those dates were the same timing as mine BUT the order froze about 2 weeks early without notice, then last Thursday the order thawed after the new tariff announcement, Friday I made a small change to the order, and now the order has not re-frozen. So call me confused.
That's something but not as good because when running the native system you are using a superior external antenna unaffected by insulated windows, etc. Also, switching back and forth between systems is annoying. Yet another compromise for Porsche handling prowess!
My wifes Cadillac Lyriq uses...
Why do you prefer AGM? LFP has a longer lifespan and is lighter and more compact thus allowing a bigger frunk.
LFP is more costly and can burn in an accident.
