My 2021 4S has had its share of problems. Anybody who reads my posts here on this forum knows that I push my car out there on frequent 6000km+ road-trips.

Outside of the plentiful PCM glitches, my car had the following major issues:
  • Frequent 22kW AC charger failures – I'm on my fourth – often leaving me stranded far from home.
  • Frequent data connection issues leaving the PCM and car entirely disconnected from the internet.
However, since the last AC charger replacement – coupled with the recent software updates – every single issue on the car has been fixed.

For the past few months – the car has been flawless – rock solid data connection and charging. Apple music works every time, PVTS+ tracker maintains its connection, etc.

I even acquired Plug & Charger capabilities with latest AC charger swap-out that I didn't get from the factory!

As I am about eight weeks from picking up a new Turbo S – I am hoping the new car which will have the latest software and 22kW AC charger from factory – will be as reliable as this car has become.

Whoever in Ireland becomes my 4S's next owner – they'll be getting a car with lots of documented adventures – and one that is behaving flawlessly.

Lucid Air Grand Touring. Just got it two days ago, so I’m reserving judgement. So far, though. I’m impressed.
I understand moving away from Porsche if their experience is not doing it for you - but moving to a new unproven manufacturer confuses me - I did the new start-up car maker once (Tesla) - frankly I don't have it in me to train another vehicle manufacturer…I just don't.

I wish you luck.

Sorry to freak you out. Porsche doesn’t make junk. Just don’t expect perfection. Keeping your expectations measured and your wallet ready is key to enjoyment.
I don’t mind spending the money as long as I get value for what I’m buying. And I also get there is a premium that you pay for the brand. However I don’t like getting ripped off and charged for extraneous things…seems like Porsche tries to screw customers over with their service charges in addition to their poor customer service….??‍♂

But still: overall, it’s the best EV
that is debatable, I am very pleased with my Ipace. it has a great ride, it is quite peppy and handles quite well. it's only issue is it is hampered by slow charging

This is why test-driving as many used Taycans with a healthy amount of miles on them whether through dealerships or friends/acquaintances who trust you enough to let you drive is very important before committing to an expensive Taycan. Everyone's tolerance for these Taycan issues will vary greatly. Before even driving one, I read forums and became completely turned off about the PCM issues, charging errors, rattles and squeaks, and overall build quality shortcomings, that I started looking into other options more closely like MB and BMW. But after test-driving a handful of Taycans, going on a short 200 mile road trip in a friend's 20k mile Turbo CT, and even borrowing a 26k mile 2020 4S model for a day, I managed to learn more about whether it was still the right choice. While all the PCM lagginess and issues and rattles and squeaks were indeed present in all the Taycans I've driven and ridden in, I've realized that they were tolerable and acceptable enough when also considering the Taycan's many other qualities. YMMV. Perhaps many years of owning several Audi, BMW, and MB performance models that all became rattly and squeaky as they aged and became abused on poorly-maintained city streets have pre-conditioned me for such things. But compared to the many Tesla models owned by friends and family I've ridden in for years now, I've learned that all the rattles and squeaks are just simply more apparent in an EV vs on an ICE car, for obvious reasons (no noisy engine to drown out the other noises), and that at the end of the day, the NVH are still far worse in most of the Teslas I've been in than any Taycan - and that's already a win in my book.

Going to be honest. This is the type of post I most feared reading.
Car is in Emden and I have been waiting 1 year to receive it. First time Porsche buyer and first time EV owner. So a sort of double whammy. I feel like I am getting cold feet and am always thinking maybe I should just buy a Porsche ICE car like the Panamera which is more tried and true…
Reading other posts most people seem to be doing ok with their Taycans but truly reading this post makes me wonder ??
Exactly how I'm feeling, mine is due pickup in 2 weeks. Obviously on forums you tend to see the negative side, but I can fully relate to what you're saying here.

I’ve had my 2022 4S since March and put over 26k miles on it, so far. It’s the best performance EV that money can buy.

I haven’t experienced any issue that wasn’t quickly resolved. With the standard performance battery, I see about 240+ miles of range since getting the ANA6 update.

I recently met a couple with a Lucid being unable to charge at an Electrify America despite the rest of being able to charge at the same chargers. A few weeks ago, I spoke with another owner who’s never seen a charge rate higher than 70kw. Yeah, hard pass. I will stick with automakers experienced with building quality cars.

My Taycan has never left me walking. My dealer is excellent. My only complaint is that the car is in a perpetual state of being dirty, because I drive it so much.

Sorry to hear about your experience, but it’s far from typical.

Just wondering if there are enough disgruntled owners out there that this is a real thing or not. Given the chaos in the new car segment, parts shortages, new manufacturers entering, general inflation, it's hard to a get clear read. Recent Taycan sales numbers aren't great, but the order backlog looks firm. The one thing that is probably true, is that with Porsche as a public company, the finance guys are going to takeover and will want to cut costs and extract as much revenue as possible.

Bwahahahahhahahahhaha. You should have kept that to yourself after complaining about all the issues with your Taycan.

You think the Lucid will be any better? The Denver Lucid team let me use one for a weekend and what I experienced was that the software still had lots of improvements to be made, and that I will just never be able to get over how ugly the car is. In the Lucid's case, beauty is not in the eye of the beholder, that car is just plain ugly. Maybe the new stealth blacked roofed ones will look better, but the silver roof on the current ones is just god awful to look at.

Hopefully you never have any issues, because with no repair network in place it will be extremely challenging to get the Lucid fixed.

Honestly, I just don't know how anyone can go from a Taycan to a Lucid???? Give me a gorgeously designed car with glitchy software any day of the week over a vehicle that may have slightly improved software, but looks like a freaking Buick.

Anyway, good luck moving forward with you new vehicle.

Type ANY EV name (including lucid) in google follows by “problems” and you will get a TON of hits.
Forget EV - google any CAR name followed by problems.

I am perfectly gruntled with my Taycan and considering placing an order for a new one in a color I like better. I might go upmarket from base to 4S as well, but so many reviewers rave the RWD drives best ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

The taycan isn't perfect but I think it's pretty close! just hit 10k miles and spent $0 on refueling. Speeding into corners never gets old. Sure the technology (rear view camera sucks, etc) isn't as robust as other OEMS but if that's a priority you can get better value looking elsewhere.
