Glad to be done with Porsche and Taycan

Just wondering if there are enough disgruntled owners out there that this is a real thing or not. Given the chaos in the new car segment, parts shortages, new manufacturers entering, general inflation, it's hard to a get clear read. Recent Taycan sales numbers aren't great, but the order backlog looks firm. The one thing that is probably true, is that with Porsche as a public company, the finance guys are going to takeover and will want to cut costs and extract as much revenue as possible.
Taycan production is entirely supply chain constrained. The backlog shows that demand far outstrips supply.

Porsche is incredibly profitable. It’s the most profitable car company in the world. They have no reason to make cuts or compromise the brand.

There aren’t enough “disgruntled owners” out there to affect anything. The Taycan is a car with no direct competitor. Tesla Model S? Sit in one of those and then, sit in Taycan and try pretending that the cars in the same class. Lucid? Taycan still feels like it’s at a different level. Mercedes? Pure efficiency play where performance takes a back seat. The Taycan is a four door sports car.

It's just the way the car drives. I came from a series of M5s, this car just drives lovely. I ignore the pcm now, so long the car starts up, never leaves me stranded, keeps on driving the way it does, it's just lovely.
That is all I need too.
A good satnav for chargers would be handy but all I really need is a car which doesn’t break down that I can get in and enjoy driving.
Quiet good riding and smooth with a good turn of speed when needed.

I will do my best to make this short and sweet. I have had two Taycan 4s in the past 3 years. I sold the first to get the second because of issues with the first one, the dealer telling me certain selections weren’t available that were, etc. You can see my prior rants elsewhere.

As you’d expect for an early adopter, I lived through numerous issues, many of which relate to software. However, my first car stopped on the road. The second’s rear glass cracked for no reason within weeks of delivery and both had numerous creaks and noises, and continuous issues.

What did it for me, though, was two-fold - even though Porsche originally claimed - even as the 2020 was released - that it would get 320 miles, I never got more than 240 on the second car (I did in the first). Furthermore, even using the Porsche software that determines charging requirements, I often had to stop mid-trip when the computer originally said I’d make it with charge to spare (and without Changing settings to be more draining on the battery). Though the recent OS upgrade helped, the Taycan needs an OS overhaul, not just patches.

What bothered me more than all of this, however, was Porsche NA’s complete lack of concern for the numerous issues I encountered, both from a dealer, and a car perspective. I bought the Taycan and was one of the first to get it, because I believed in the Porsche name and quality. And while the Taycan handles better than any other car I’ve ever been in, it’s not made well in an overall sense, and the Germans don’t care because the world think it’s a great car and Keep purchasing it.

For all its issues, if it were a $70-85k car, it’d be worth it. However, my two were close to $150k, and for that, major and consistent problems should not happen, and when They do, the manufacturer should stand behind the product or refund your money. Porsche did neither.

Just my $.02 for anyone considering buying.
While there are certainly people who regret their purchase, I think they’re in the minority. I wouldn’t worry too much.

I will add to this that unfortunately I was in an accident with my 4S . Current estimate is about $30k. The problem as you might guess is parts with no good estimate as to when they will be available. And I’m told the repair will take about three month once all the parts have been received. I’m probably looking at February. Also the resolution to the charging issue is a disgrace, they really don’t care about owner loyalty. My next car will be a low priced disposable so I can just throw it away and start over.

There are certainly elements of the way Porsche operates that won’t fly in the future as they gain more first time customers. I have had several P cars and have always felt like I tolerate a lot for driving experience and design. Not so much quality issues but the general feeling that I am being taking advantage of financially…especially for service. While I am still fairly certain that a 911 is in my future (bucket list car), I am not certain that another Porsche EV (after the Taycan) is something I am willing to take on unless they fundamentally change the way they do business.
The rudeness and general bad attitude experienced at TWO London dealerships owned by Porsche Retail Group (West London and Mayfair) is simply unacceptable. There are clearly one or two bad apples in management and certainly a bad work culture across the lower ranks.

My Taycan CT has been gone for a week. Sure, I miss the handling in the Taycan, but I feel more confident that I won't get stranded in the EQS 450 SUV. We experienced drama in the Taycan almost every time we took it on the road. Stuff like the screens going dark leaving us unable to turn on the defrost to clear the windows. More recently the driver side window refusing to stay in the up position and repeatedly lowering to the full open position. On our last 900 mile trip all five charging stops were like pulling teeth to get the DC chargers started. The dealer being reluctant to install the uPdate software for two months for fear of breaking something was another turnoff. It's also nice not to worry about waking up to a burned down garage.

It's a relief to know that there seems to be a big pool of Porsche enthusiasts who are willing to overlook all the warts and keep the resale value of the Taycan up so that those of us who abandon the platform get out without taking a big hit. My cost of ownership (not counting electricity and insurance) was less than $6K for a year.

Keep in mind some of us rarely if ever experience issues. The backup camera is about the only thing I really don’t like and that’s minor. And I don’t really have any fear about my house burning down.

Porsche makes a great car and Mediocre EV
Tesla makes a great EV and a Mediocre Car

Lucid is just plain ugly
Rivian is flailing
Mercedes seems to have good tech but lacks inspiration

there are no good options.

but the Taycan is among the best sports sedan you can buy - full stop - ICE or EV - but it is not without it's warts and problems

I've owned cars of all kinds since I was 16 (40 years) - I've yet to own a brand that was problem free - and all of my vehicles have had their issues…some worse than others.

My son's 2022 Model Y has been flawless if you accept Tesla's basic quality

not sure moving to Lucid is "the answer" - unproven is an understatement.

my attitude is the grass is far from greener and they all have poop hidden in their lawns…

Thanks for reminding me about the back up camera that is put to shame by the one in the EQS. Actually, I wasn't worried about the Taycan burning down the garage. I should have been more precise and called out the ill-designed PMC+.

That’s fine, but I wouldn’t buy a car for its backup camera.

I don’t use the Porsche EVSE other than as an emergency backup.

At 9000 miles myself in my 22 GTS. A few issues early on - resolved and some rattles that are annoying but I still can’t wait to get into my car for the 40 min drive home everyday.

love the looks and sounds. Effortless acceleration with great handling. Always drive in sport or sport plus for the gear change!

Going to be honest. This is the type of post I most feared reading.
Car is in Emden and I have been waiting 1 year to receive it. First time Porsche buyer and first time EV owner. So a sort of double whammy. I feel like I am getting cold feet and am always thinking maybe I should just buy a Porsche ICE car like the Panamera which is more tried and true…
Reading other posts most people seem to be doing ok with their Taycans but truly reading this post makes me wonder ??
Forums can be both the best and the worst in respect obtaining useful and accurate information :).

Invariably there is a bias towards folk reporting issues vs. the usual majority of those that just drive the car w/o issue - my experience def closer to the latter.

For a better sense look at this poll from this very forum - 86% extremely happy with their purchase and over 94% more than satisfied.
https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...-happy-with-purchase.5843/page-10#post-199902

..... and I can assure you that there is a bucket load more folk that are equally pleased and have never visited Forums such as these that would improve this metric even more .

I'd say park your worries and enjoy the journey as there is a 95% chance you're going to have a great experience!

Its a very good point, posts like: "Everything is fine with my car" would also get pretty boring and meaningless after a while (and weird).

Right now here are the stats for who's viewing the forum:

Porsche Cayenne EV Glad to be done with Porsche and Taycan Screenshot 2022-11-05 at 22.29.44

700 people reading without accounts vs 87 who have the possibility of posting something. Forums really are a bad measure of what's going on out there statistically. But a very good source of owner info, education and help.
