Anyone going back to a Tesla?

New to forum. Don’t kick me off for asking this…Porsche guy here. Have 2021 Taycan RWD (my 5th Porsche). Truly have had a passion for Porsches since my teens. Previously owned a Tesla Model 3 performance. Considering trading the Taycan for a Model S. Love the Taycan but the range is not great especially in winter. Live in rural area and commute quite a bit. No charging station on my commute. Even with performance battery plus can barely make it to work and back in the winter. Only 65 miles each way. Summer-no problem.

Anyone gone back to a Tesla after owning a Taycan. Thoughts?

Taycan:
-no better looking car on the road
-compliments daily
-good build quality/handling-all the stuff Porsche guys appreciate
-best AC in any vehicle ever owned
-some quirks, tech not as good as tesla
-kids complain it’s cramped in back
-what is that strange ticking noise?
-don’t know what it is with keyfob battery-but constantly needs replacing
-vehicle occasionally locks me out
-2 electric system failure lights-fixed at dealership
-otherwise reliable

Model S
-great tech and range
-comfortable for family of 5
-better computer than is car
-dated styling (my previous M3P felt like a 7 year old car after 2 years)
-much better app
-that acceleration

Are you saying you only get a little over 130 miles on a full charge in a RWD in the winter? I get much more than that in my turbo, and I drive quite aggressively even in the winter.

No Teslas for me thank you very much.

I don’t think I would remain/go back to Tesla if it was free……well…I would if it was free but only to sell it or trade it in…..

Am itching to get rid of my current model X and without trying to offend anyone with a model 3, Y or S…..I’ve had all as curtesy cars and didn’t enjoy the experience.

As to mileage ‘predictions’ from Tesla - my experience is that whilst they are/were the leaders with the longer range ‘advertisement’, they generally show best predictive range which rarely result as true, so much so that I would not base a purchase on Tesla mileage range as I think it’s more fantasy island sales gimmick than a serious offering.

Turbo does 200-210 in the winter 250-270 miles in the summer. Sounds like a fault.

I’ve never seen less than 200 miles range.

@FrozenRobert said his was around 190 in zero deg weather.

Something is wrong if this is true and not an exaggeration. I get >200 miles at 85% with no preconditioning (but with a garage) in sub-freezing temperatures.

That range seems completely wrong....?

I have a 2021 RWD PB+ also and get 300+ miles on a good run in the summer and minimum 220+ on cold days in winter.

You should be getting similar range to your Model 3.

No. The Porsche is just too much fun and I'm glad to have replaced my Model S.

The decision is easier in the UK because Tesla are not making a right-hand drive Model S, so our only choice is a Model 3 which is basically an Uber

I just rented a Model 3 Performance for a week in Norway and it was certainly spirited, excellent range and of course an excellent charging infrastructure; but it just could not match the Porsche's road-holding or general comfort level.

If you're just looking for range for road trips Lucid Air or MB EQS will fit the bill.

The problem in Texas is not Electrify America. The problem in Texas is Texas.

It is not Electrify America's fault that the DC charging infrastructure in Texas is thwarted by the medieval, backwater mentality of is local government resulting in less state wide high speed charging options than LA county, or greater Denver.

Put the blame where it truly belongs.

And, no, I will never go back to a Tesla.
