Got a new FKM rubber strap by Strap Habit for my Knot Watches diver, the original strap was a bit stiff and uncomfortable. The new one is a big improvement for wear comfort:

NWA and final (planned) watch purchase for the year:

Grand Seiko SLGW005 '45GS recreation'

Porsche Cayenne EV Watch collectors - let's talk watches here! FB_IMG_1731361937482

This is a limited edition of 1200 pieces, using GS' new 9SA4 manual wind hi Beat movement first debuted in the SLGW001. While that is a handsome manual wind dress watch piece, I never really warmed up to the Evolution 9 design language. However as soon as this SLGW005 (and solid gold SLGW003) were revealed to be a modern revival of the classic vintage 45GS case reference up sized from the original 36mm case diameter to a more modern 38.8mm (to make room for the larger (9SA4 movement) I immediately fell in love.

The dial is a near perfect recreation of the classic 45GS watch and without anything next to it for size reference, this can be easily mistaken for the original vintage reference which for me is part of the appeal. Only those really in the know will appreciate or even recognize what this is, and to everyone else, it looks like a understated if boring dress watch worn by some Japanese businessman from the 1980s, and most would have no idea its a nearly $10K piece with a huge SEIKO logo displayed prominently up top. This is the ultimate in retro cool elegance and a great way for me to cap my watch collecting in 2024 ??

Wasn’t planning on getting a watch on this vacation, but my wife really liked it. Glashutte Original isn’t quite a mainstream brand, but their watches, IMO, are a great value for the money. Great finishing. In house movements. Some high complications. (Chef’s kiss emoji)

I really like that.
Great colour and interesting shape. Love chronos where the sub dials are discreet, so they don't distract from hours/minutes.
Which model is it?

Update.
Found the model.
Question on the hour timer.
Can you set it in conjunction with the 30s timer to show elapsed time - to use say parking meter / cooking?

The chronograph seconds counter is the centrally-mounted seconds hand. The sub-dial at 3 o'clock is a 30 minute counter, and the counter is at 12 o'clock below the logo is chronograph hours. The chrono indicators all time a single event, and can be used to time events up to 12 hours long - parking, smoking a brisket (I'm in Texas), or how long a soccer match actually takes (because it's NOT the advertised 90 minutes! ?). It's also a flyback chronograph using the reset pusher at 4 o'clock.

That's all very useful... and in a watch that is very legible for just telling the time.

I personally don't need something that times laps or is waterproof to 1000ft.

Time / date / timer / legible / lume / 50m+ waterproof.
Thats all I need nowadays.

But no longer my Rolex's which I can't always wear because they might get nicked.

I do love the colour!

When I am next changing watches it will be on my shortlist with the Chopard Alpine Eagle.

Is it comfortable to wear?

The GO is indeed comfortable, if a bit heavy on the bracelet. It's 14mm tall and 199 grams. A friend has an Alpine Eagle and it's another great watch, though the GO movement is more finely decorated. The Chopard is similarly large at 44mm x 13mm tall. The GO Seventies is 40mm across, but being square it wears like 42-44mm round watch, so it's "full size" for sure. I have the leather strap incoming, and I'm excited for that to lighten the overall feel.

I am a big fan of GO movements, classical regional engineering detail without Lange price.
I have a Panograph I bought 20 years ago.

I do not like the modern fashion for large watches (which does seem to be waning thankfully).

I really like the Panograph! It's totally unique in how it displays elapsed time. I can't recall ever seeing one in person. The current version in gold is so classy, but a bit pricey.

The Grand Seiko is such a beauty, and the Casioak is a solid everyday watch—tough and cool. I’ve been building up my collection little by little too. Lately, I’ve been really into the Patek Philippe Nautilus Replica. It’s got that classy, timeless vibe, but I don’t have to stress about it being super expensive, so I actually wear it out.

What do you think? IWC Big Pilot 43 Spitfire in titanium.
IMG_4185.jpeg
I prefer smaller myself. I do have a watch this big but it has far more information on the face.
As a non-pilot I do not need a huge watch to read in bad light.
I do like a crown that shape.
