Did a pretty major reduction of my watch collection, including a couple Grand Seikos, my Omega Speedmaster 57 and a few microbrands:
In their place are two new additions that I hope will stay in the collection for a while:
Tag Heuer Carrera Glassbox chrono purple dial:
Omega Speedmaster FOIS
First new (preowned) purchase of 2025:
Found a 2020 production year JLC Master Ultra Thin Moon for sale from a Grey market dealer in HK, excellent condition, complete in box. Paid $7k all in, including taxes + shipping for a piece that currently retails for $12k new and that is before sales taxes.
NWA and final (planned) watch purchase for the year:
Grand Seiko SLGW005 '45GS recreation'
This is a limited edition of 1200 pieces, using GS' new 9SA4 manual wind hi Beat movement first debuted in the SLGW001. While that is a handsome manual wind dress watch piece, I never really warmed up...
Got a new FKM rubber strap by Strap Habit for my Knot Watches diver, the original strap was a bit stiff and uncomfortable. The new one is a big improvement for wear comfort:
This was a weird month, I pre-order a few different microbrand watches (all $600 or less) over the last 8 months from different companies, and for some reason, they ALL arrived the SAME WEEK ?
Erebus Ascent
Loresum LS04 Moonphase
Henry Archer Verden GMT
All three watches are very nice for...
Back on the subject of GS, it looks like the days of buying used without fear of buying a convincing fake are coming to an end. Apparently the factories in China are starting to crank out these now and not just Swiss brand pieces.
CN: this guy on a GS sub reddit who sounds like he knows his...
After I sold my Moonswatch Mission to Pluto and some other cheaper watches, I recently learned there's a Swatch store in my area (Topanga Canyon Mall in the SFV) so I stopped by there after work in LA and walked in to pick up a Mission on Earth Polar Lights model:
And when I got home...
Just picked up the new Nodus Contrail GMT from a local Los Angeles based microbrand Watch Show yesterday, with Nodus as one of the vendors present.
I've wanted one of these since they were announced, being a fan of the Miyota 9075 jump hr GMT movement and already owning a Traska Venturer...
With the summer heat ? and our community pool being recently renovated, I've been celebrating and staying cool by regular swimming and testing out the WR of nearly ALL my watches with 100M+ WR ??
And you get the idea...
Back from my trip to Japan ⛩️?
Thanks to the favorable currency exchange rates and overall lower prices in Japan, it's a watch shoppers paradise over there, especially if you're looking at local Japanese brands. Picked up these:
Grand Seiko SBGY011 'Asaborake' manual wind spring drive dress...
With warmer weather and a tropical getaway weekend coming soon, I popped off the bracelet off my Yachtmaster and threw on the Horus blue rubber strap I purchased when I first got the watch:
I don't care for the stock NATO and didn't bother wearing it until I ordered an aftermarket fitted rubber strap, which arrived this weekend, Big improvement overall ??
So I picked up a Swatchpain Fifty Fathoms in Vegas last weekend, all the regular Moonswatch and Blancpain variants are now in stock, I simply walked in, swiped my CC and walked out with the watch:
Less than one month later, another NWA ?
This time it's the newest model from Korean microbrand Pitzmann, creatively titled Pitzmann III ???
It's my first automatic chronograph (I own a manual wind, and two quartz) and uses the relatively new Seiko 8R48 automatic movement that is currently...
