The latest Porsche survey is about a concept they are calling a "luxury Charging Experience" where you book a fancy meal and charging session while on a road trip. I absolutely blasted them in the survey for considering such a frivolous idea while they have so many other meaningful issues that they should assign resources to get resolved and make our overall experience better. Did anyone else fill out this survey? If so, do you think I was too harsh in putting them on blast or was it justified?

LOL I did the exact same thing. I told them I would rather see more chargers installed and make the existing ones more reliable. On every question where there was a space to enter comments, I would repeat that sentiment but rephrased it a bit.

Is the charging experience in the USA really that bad? Here in western Europe (the Netherlands) I once had a charger which was in service mode.

I have been doing this now for over 3 years.

It has gotten worse.

I get that chargers can break down, stuff happens. The issue is they just aren't keeping pace with the demand, so every charger that breaks has a bigger impact than it did before.

It is made worse by so many cars on the road that can't take advantage of the faster charging, so rather than occupying a charger for 20-30 minutes like a Taycan would, they camp out at the charger for 1-2 hours.

On the trip from LA - SF, there is a location with 10 EA chargers about midway. And that is all I need for that trip. The day before thanksgiving 9 of them were working, the day after thanksgiving only 6 were working...and there were 3 Chevy Bolts charging there for a long time, so it went from 10 chargers to 3.

I was infuriated by the survey and told them so. Can Porsche be any more out of touch with reality? I am literally renting combustion cars for my long distance driving needs. The only "luxury" I want is available and reliable charging. They haven't a clue. I blasted them big time and pulled no punches. Good on you for doing the same.

In New England, yes, it really is that bad.
The number of stations where you can be confident of hitting 100kW and also not having to endure half an hour of dead time from waiting for an available plug, troubleshooting handshake issues, driving out of your way etc is limited to … well, there’s the Magic Dock in Enfield CT and that’s about it.

Plus the ABB R&D facility where my wife hit about 200kW in her i4 before the security guard arrived.

She did hit 161kW at the Auburn Mall MA EA last week but that’s double what we’ve achieved at our three prior sessions there, either in her i4 or my CT.

Also double what I got at the Tewksbury MA EA yesterday. After waiting about half an hour for plug. Behind Uber Bolts. I took the CT instead of our ICE only because I was in no rush and had plenty of work to do while waiting. Otherwise, I would never take a CCS1 day trip in New England that requires DCFC.

Meanwhile, the state of Vermont is finally building out a network of 34 chargers. But only two chargers at each station. And each charger is only 50kW. And half of them are Blink units that don’t even get above the mid 40s. This is from funding that was allocated in 2019 and 2020.

Meanwhile, doesn’t make any financial sense for any network to get serious about installing useful stations since everyone is waiting for a chunk of the 2021 federal funding:

The charging situation in USA seems to be really bad.

Here in Western Europe (mainly in and around Belgium), i haven’t had any trouble whatsoever when DC fastcharging. The connection is quite fast (less than a minute), plug and charge is available on (most) IONITY and Fastned stations, and the charging speed with a pre-heated battery is consistent around or above 150 kW.

For slow AC charging, I have been cought a few tImes by the “per-minute” charge, but there again, the connection and charging experience has been without any trouble.

I use a combination of Porsche Charging Card + Freshmile (Cheap) + P+Card (interparking) + Bluecorner (for overnight charging at hotels) + Shell (very expensive, but it always works) and Elli (spare that almost always works).

The idea of a luxury «fancy lunch while charging» does have some appeal in my opinion.

Well aren’t you spoiled wanting bathrooms!
I just used some bushes at the Enfield CT Magic Dock station. Was closer than walking to the Walgreens in the same parking lot. And the supermarket was closed at night.
I willingly paid Tesla about half a buck per kWh for this luxury experience instead of the free frustration at numerous EA stations along my route. I will definitely return to that Magic Dock location again along with Brewster NY.

Look at Mr Fancy Pants here wanting bathrooms and trash cans. Next thing you know you’ll want a roof over the charging station so you won’t get wet while it’s raining. Some people just can’t be pleased. ?

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought this way. I got so angry during the survey and called their leadership into question.

Porsche's North American charging game (L2 and FastDC) is weak sauce and who ever thinks they are running it is mostly out of touch from what I can see…this survey confirms that 100%

they are simply 100% clueless.

combine this with no word on Supercharger Access and the picture is pretty complete…

I also told them to fall in line with the rest of the major automakers selling in the US and adopt the Tesla standard.
