The taycan is my first EV and I didn't really buy it thinking about longevity...but now that I am on this forum I can see how much obession there is (it seems way more than range anxiety..)

does anyone have the stats of what happened to Tesla model S from the 2012-2013?

looking at this thead on reddit it seems there are lots in very good battery health..

I doubt taycans will become dead pieces of metal, if anything they are just a great used buy for many people who'd never manage to afford an ICE porsche..

Just picked up an XM, which has the PHEV set up that is being ported over to the M5. Still in the 1200 mile break in, but electric range showing 37 miles in a 6,000 lb SUV. Should be higher on the M5 sedan and touring. (I know the XM is ugly, but the interior is glorious and I am in there when driving, plus 13% off a custom order).
Interesting choice!
I sat in the Red version for a little bit, simply b/c I was at a dealer's i5 event chatting about different models, and their allocated Red had just arrived that day. Interior was definitely glorious! Looks like it's still at the dealer, almost half-a-year later ...
Anyway, those 37 EV miles can definitely be useful, and impressive for such a heavy SUV.

re Battery replacement cost, that would almost certainly come down in the future as a market develops for that service given that right now it's almost exclusively under warranty.

re i5 lack of frunk, agreed, that is a downside of my wife's i4, but the i5 sedan I checked out might have had more cargo capacity than my CT, although of course the i5 sedan lacks the versatility of a hatch (which our i4 does, as of course does the i5 wagon -- now what can't the U.S. have the i5 but with a hatch?!?).

re i5 range, the battery is essentially the same as the i4, so kind of puzzling for the next-size-up model to have the same battery capacity!

re charging speed, in the Northeastern U.S., our i4 actually charges faster, since Magic Docks consistently hit its charging curve w/ max ~212kw, whereas my Taycan ends up only in the 130s, and any CCS1 session anywhere in the triple digits for either car is uncertain (despite the 150kW and 350kW claims for EA, and 125kW for ChargePoint).

Thx for sharing - but honestly after reading your list, imo, perhaps the absolutely overarching reason to buy Porsche is for world class driving dynamics and sports car performance. These aspects did not even make your list!
I recently drove the i5 e40 and the ICE 5 series at BMWs auto cross lite promo events. While it seemed like it’d be a cozy ride the, i5 didn’t hide its weight very well and handled significantly worse than the Taycan IMO. On the other hand the ICE 5 series felt noticeably more nimble.

Practically speaking, I don’t think it’d be that important (and in fact comfort may be a higher priority) in daily use but I was surprised by how different the handling felt.

We were replacing our '20 Cayenne E Hybrid, and had three SUVs on order. A '24 Cayenne S E Hybrid, an Audi RSQ8 and then the XM. Dropped the Audi with the BSG issues leaving people stranded. We were given 13% off MSRP on our ordered XM, and the S E Hybrid hasn't even gone into production, and no deals to be had at this time. So we took the XM. Powertrain is amazing, the new M5 will be great (but very heavy).

Started to drive my AMG GT and damn its so much more fun than powerful heavy cars which are good for straight line acceleration but when you hit mountain roads the fun ends, except the Taycan, it drives so well. That's why I'm not selling it yet, despite its issues.

I also looked at i5 but I find the battery too small for a 2024 EV, plus its expensive when you spec it right.

I hope people’s battery fears are pessimistic.

I bought a Toyota Prius hybrid in 2005 out of interest and liked it and kept it.
The magazines were full of criticism of concern about battery life and replacement cost back then too.
I “sold” it to my daughter 6 years ago and she is still using it. The traction battery is still the original, 19 years old.
A 12V lead-acid auxiliary battery lasts about 5 to 6 years so it has gone through several of them but the traction battery, presumably benefiting from effective battery management software, is fine.
As someone who works in the battery field, they are. Do batteries fail? Sure. But the failure modes are generally understood and any early failures will be covered by the warranty periods. A good battery doesn’t suddenly go bad in year 8.

I own a Taycan GTS ST, and I've got a new i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro coming within the next two months, so I'll be able to compare them both side-by-side during ownership.

I test drove the i5 eDrive40 a few months ago and I was very impressed by the ride quality and the performance. Why anybody would feel the need to get an M60 after driving the 40 is beyond me.

That is really promising information on battery life. I would be ok with my Taycan main battery lasting that long and having no fire safety issues forcing a replacement. Thanks

? love it when a man says why do you need a more powerful car when he has a GTS and poor old me has a 4S. Why anybody would feel the need to get an GTS after driving the 4S is beyond me ?

The lease for the M60 was a LOT cheaper, £5,500 over the 2 years cheaper and it’s X-Drive for country roads in winter

What’s e-drive is it similar
or is it still 2 WD

I agree. Test drove both i5 trims, and reached the same conclusion.

My 2 cents from test driving both - the eDrive40(it is RWD) is akin to the RWD Taycan and the M60 to the 4S. I am no car expert especially in Porsches and/or BMWs, but that was my impression.

Not sure that was the point I was trying to make

None of us are experts, unless you’re F1eng, we just like what we like and if I can get more for less money, I usually take it
