Ceramic treatment?

My car is due very soon and I have been pondering on having the ceramic treatment done at the dealers.
What are everyone’s views on the process - is it actually worth the money?
Obviously there is always large premium charged for anything bought through dealerships but wondered if the treatment carried out by them was truly any better that what can be bought on the open market for about a third of the cost?
Also in the long term does the ceramic treatment actually offer real protection against the elements?

I absolutely don't buy a new car now without getting it ceramic coated. It's not about protecting it against the elements, as such. The three main benefits are:

* It makes the car look better.
* It helps prevent it from the getting dirty in the first place.
* When you do wash it, it's much easier to actually clean it, and get a result that looks good.

I would absolutely NOT get it done by a dealer. Preparing the car and ceramic coating it is not their core business, and they will simply not have the expertise or skills as a dedicated car detailer would have. If they hand it off to a 3rd party, then you'll get charged a huge premium.

Also, you will need to have the car machine polished before the ceramic coating is applied. This is an absolute must, as there is no point in ceramic coating without removing scratches and blemishes from the paint.

I see your location is Saddleworth, in which case I have a guy I can recommend in Preston who I've used for about ten years now. I'll be taking my Cayenne Turbo to him in November after it's delivered. It will be my 8th car I've had done with him, and I can't fault him. I drive all the way from Holland to have him work on my cars. He's really that good.

I last saw him two months ago when I drove my iX3 from Holland to Preston. He charged me £750 for two days work, machine polishing the paintwork, and applying the 5-year Angelwax Graphene coating.

I had my Macan detailed by the dealer. They were open about using a specialist company - they used Gtech which is a good product. I got the dealer to do it as the car was in the dealers for 2 weeks until the 25 reg came in. It cost £ 1,250 and was a good job. Gtech was guaranteed for 5 years.

I had the Coupe detailed by a local company with an excellent reputation. They advised to have it coated using Cartec. It was £ 550 and guaranteed for 3 years. The car itself looks similar after rain (beading) as the Gtech.

I have my cars detailed as it does seem to help residuals as the car looks well cared for ! I personally ensure the inside protection, particularly the leather, has excellent reviews as I go for lighter interiors - Macan was Chalk and Cayenne is Magnesium. The Chalk looked like brand new when I traded the car against the Coupe.

The dealers in the States like to offer Simoniz ceramic coating, and I reluctantly agreed while awaiting a trim piece for my new Cayenne Electric. I regret the move and should have done a graphene coating by a reputable independent shop. There are many pro / con debates of the ceramic vs. graphene, but I'd definitely do one of them. Mine looks great when clean, but their ceramic finish doesn't repel water / dirt anywhere close to the graphene coating I had applied to my other car.

When I got my Cayenne S EV, the dealer sent it to a local detailing shop that’s great at PPF and ceramic coatings for Porsche cars. I've seen their work and hopefully my car will turn out likewise. I know they’ll get a small cut, but I’m happy to pay for it because they’ll be responsible if anything goes wrong. I’ve had ceramic coatings on my cars before, and I’ve noticed they make them look better and are easier to clean. I’m a bit worried that the PPF might mess with the radar and holding my breath that it turns out ok.

Advantage of getting the dealer to do the PPF. In the unlikely scenario where is does create an issue it's the dealers fault

Do you guys think ceramic coating is useful if I don’t plan to wash the car myself? Or it has more benefit than just easier cleaning?

I use a hand wash car wash facility. The ceramic coating prevents swirl marks even though the attendants are not as careful as me. If you are planning to use an automatic or drive through car wash, you will get swirl marks with or without ceramic coating.

No PPF, just ceramic inside & outside
