Would you stick with Porsche?

While I do have other cars and toys, I am very much a Porsche person -- and will do my darnedest to always have one. From overall performance (not just 0-60 times) to build quality, there is no substitute.

That doesn't preclude me from buying other EVs. We've currently got a Mini Cooper SE (LOVE THAT THING) and a Harley-Davidson LiveWire. We also have an F-150 Lightning on the way. We haven't abandoned ICE completely with an Alfa Romeo 4C Spider as our fun weekend toy.

We've had as many as five cars, plus motorcycles. If you've got the space to keep them, multiple vehicle ownership is a better deal -- and more satisfying. The incremental costs aren't terribly expensive and there are economies of scale. Best of all, you don't have to put so much emphasis on practicality.

You don't have to "replace" your Taycan with anything.

Taycan is at the moment only EV that is something I really wanted. I have not yet driven i4 M50, but in paper that is the other one I am interested.

I see myself going back to BMW camp in some years. 2025 onwards they will introduce Neu Klassem which will most likely provide very cool EV's. Those will be half price of Taycan. Yes, they won't provide as much "luxury", but that is no problem for me. Driving dynamics is the most important factor to me.
If/when bmw would make i8 electric, i’d probably give it a try….if they would have more reliable software as Taycan.

Isn’t it the same thing with a taller roof?
Slightly.

When my colleague compared his 5-series estate to an X5 he found the X5 was heavier, used more fuel (big frontal area) and the load area was a less useful shape and access higher.
The only thing better was the resale value because the X5 is fashionable.

IMO, as a vehicle aerodynamicist, it is the taller roof and worse shape which ruins it most.
Next is the weight and high C of G meaning an estate car will handle better and be able to use grippier tyres without rolling over (one of my colleagues from Michelin told me SUVs often have to be fitted with lower grip tyres to pass rollover safety tests).

And so on.

SUV is nice for older/higher persons who prefer easy ingress/egress.
Taycan can lift up to 5cm…i’d love to lift it for 15 or 20 :giggle:

Performance wise everything in an suv is a disadvantage.

Nah, after over 2 years Taycan, not a convert.

I ordered an EQA 250+ as a second car and will order a EQE SUV. Best software on the market to date for Europe.
And this is why Porsche is probably not the brand for you. The Taycan has brought more first time Porsche owners into the fold since probably the original Cayenne launch, many of whom are learning that Porsche’s core competencies are not aligned with what they want in a vehicle. For those that they are, there is no substitute. For the rest, there are probably better options out there for them.

And while the Taycan has a healthy dose of Porsche DNA in it, it’s probably the least ‘Porsche’ vehicle I’ve ever driven.

This is certainly true, though the Taycan is a “real” Porsche and the Cayenne was a Porsche tuned VW Touareg :)

I nearly bought a 911 (993) in the 90s but the NA was a bit too slow compared to my TVR and the turbo laggy, so I didn’t.
I wouldn’t consider a SUV whether it was Porsche tuned or not, Panamera didn’t make it to the top of my short list last time but, funnily enough the Taycan CT is a perfect fit.
Quiet, both superb ride and sporty handling available at the turn of a knob and the extra seats I need but not often, so something even bigger with more rear space would be pointless.

If I hadn’t ordered a Taycan I wouldn’t have bought a new car at all.

At the present rate of disappointment maybe I’ll never get one though.

No other EV I ever drove comes even close to the Taycan.
Most "new" cars still sell old tech (400 Volts etc.), so my next EV will be the next Taycan.

The first pictures look awesome…but it will take another 5 years in which I will enjoy mine.

Not sure about Porsche, but definitely with Taycan . If I put it differently, I may say Taycan has established its own branding and identity !

I agree with the OP but only as sn add on to the Taycan. Im a big sucker for Porsche’s history. I went to the Zuffenhausen museum when I had my 911 and still buy into the brand image, Much more than other carmakers that to other people may sound better.

Taycan is still the best handling and best chassis and suspension of any BEV now or in the very near future. Maybe that changes in 3+ years. Maybe it doesn’t until we see the $300k level of supercars go Bev.

When Lucid or Mercedes or BMW builds a sedan that is as enjoyable to drive as a taycan, I’d reconsider. But given the status of these companies projects, I don’t have high expectations of that

There are so many new EV coming out with very cool concept. The EQG from Mercedes, Polestar 4, Lotus Eletre, and even the Cadillac Lyriq. Looks are subjective but I think these cars do look pretty cool and futuristic. I love the way my Taycan drives and the way it looks but some of these brands also know a thing or 2 about building cars. I feel like the electric car market is giving many automakers a second chance to rebrand themselves. Personally really looking forward to what Lotus will release after the Eletre and what the Polestar 4 will be like. Very curious to how many of us would consider trying other brands, especially ones that might offer more for your dollar on the surface.
This is my first Porsche and first BEV. I would absolutely stick with Porsche. I’m loving every second and it can only get better from here. I am picking up an F150 Lightning today (I’ve had a full size truck for 10 consecutive years now) and am curious to see how that electric experience compares (not comparing the vehicles themselves). From all of the reading I’ve done, it seems that Ford’s BEV growing pains mirror Porsche’s very closely. I’ll find out soon enough!

Not looking to replace my Taycan but I am really liking the new EV VW Bus that’s is being released pretty soon.
I am keeping my eye out for that.

So...it's like this.

My first Porsche in 1998, the saleswoman told me "you'll never be able to drive anything else."

I shook it off as sales hyperbole but damned if she wasn't right.

Every time I try to "kick" I end up coming back to Porsche.
