Why no road tests for the Cayenne S

Bit churlish really but I am disappointed that there is such a lack of road tests or even reviews on the S version. Both the Turbo and Base versions have been tested and discussed endlessly. The only one that has come reasonably close is Porsche Cayenne S Electric Is The Drivetrain To Choose! First Drive & Coupe First Look and there was a UK dealer review. Nothing on real tested performance or efficiency. I've ordered one and due for delivery in Jan/Feb but have been looking forward to a review or decent road test to appear.

The Cayenne was launched with the base and Turbo, and with that comes dedicated launch events. The S was launched later, and therefore it doesn't make sense to have the same events. Porsche UK will have an S press car available, most likely, but it requires someone to request it or have a reason to drive it. YouTubers have likely moved on to other cars now the Cayenne is old news, and the addition of a different variant simply won't attract the same interest as the initial launch of the car.

S and Turbo have different size rear motors (both are oil cooled (base model isn't), inverters are 620 amps on the S and 940 amps on the Turbo and gearing will be different also.

PTV+ will feature on the Turbo (aids dynamics) and has bigger brakes as you might expect.

Efficiency is obviously better on the S (2.9 mi / kWh - 3.2 mi / kWh) compared to the Turbo's 2.8 mi / kWh - 3.0 kWh. This is similar to both the Taycan and Macan EV figures for AWD models. So not spectacular and saved by the large useable battery capacity as standard.

In normal driving I doubt you'd experience much difference in handling, ride or performance (unless you press on).

So the entry model and current range topper reviews tend to cover most aspects for now. This will change when the GTS is launched along with a potential Turbo S. The press (I'm sure) will get around to reviewing the S or perhaps already have but not yet published.

I had the S Coupé on extended loan this weekend and covered around 300 miles (Aberdeen to Fort Augustus (Loch Ness) and back).

The ride was sublime on the car which had 22" rims which was a total surprise. Taller tyre profile clearly helps.

18-way seat - good but prefer 14-way.

Entire trip consumption 3.5 miles / kWh led to over 300 miles of range (ambient temp 12C - 15C). Lots of recuperation possible on A96 and max speed limit 60mph helped also.

Really spacious inside making it more attractive than Macan EV.

Ridiculous positioning of the door mirror controls marred an otherwise good driver setup.

HUD I found too distracting - smart with all the assistance features enabled - so I switched it off in the end.

Performance not in Taycan GTS (my last EV) territory so more stately progress which is just fine with me.

In summary, highly competent drive, sublime at times, easy to park and manoeuvre (RAS helped here) and the range ability makes my benchmark Aberdeen to Edinburgh (return) a distinct possibility albeit a need for a quick volt and bolt during winter months.

Can't justify £16K price premium over base model.

Colour choice now tricky - Napoli Blue not for me - sat in a white Turbo Coupé with gloss black Sports Design pack and looked the part.
