Whilst it's an SUV, if I needed the space it would probably be this over a model x.

The performance is very close to a Turbo S Taycan and it wouldn't surprise me if it was a little quicker if you take the launch out of it. Impressive stuff.

Only “very close to a Turbo S” if your only performance criterion is straight line acceleration.
That parameter is of only rare interest to me driving in the UK.

I never drag race anyone and the ride handling compromise, steering feel and aero are all very important to me, in these areas any SUV almost certainly won’t be as good as any Taycan model.

Very true. I'd still (and have) take the Turbo S over this but as a fast family wagon, its quite a compelling thing.

Very close to it in price, too, in the case of the headline-grabbing "R" version with comparable options. It looks great externally IMO but I don't need an SUV and- probably with unfair prejudice- an EV with a Lotus badge doesn't inspire me with confidence (especially with no local dealership).

Eletre is on my list to have a nosey at along with the Fisker Ocean at the Fully Charged show this w/e in Farnborough.

Need a decent, quick suv update for my ageing X which is costing me an arm and a leg now in break / fix territory. Mostly break and I fix ?

Macca EV is also in the mix but might be a bit small and need to be able to tow occasionally.

Just watched that vid. Knew nothing about the car beforehand.

I think that's a really compelling car for someone looking for an EV SUV.
If I were fishing in that pond it would probably be top of my list.

My biggest dislike is the huge Tesla like screen. Thank God the Taycan didn't go that route.

And on that theme, I think Tesla (and other traditional manufacturers) have got a tidal wave of hot competition incoming. They will really need to up their game to keep market share.

It's why you see Tesla competing hard on price... they have the benefit of scale and cheap capital and I'm sure sense that the competition among traditional manufacturers is growing (although many of these traditional car companies are selling EVs at a loss). The quicker they can get to EV mass adoption, the better their position will be.

Certainly on the S and X, like we can see in this thread. Not special enough any more at £100K plus. They need a refresh and plaid straight line and half baked yoke aint good enough any more.

3 and Y are the other end of the spectrum. Tesla probably have enough gross margin on these models to squeeze the established euros and Koreans into an especially tight place on price...China though will be a challenge/

Out of interest, what sort of things are going wrong with your old Tesla and how much do they cost to fix?

It's currently in the shop getting front suspension sorted. New air struts, compressor, valve block, lower knuckle joints. Bill for that is around £3.5K

In January I need a new front trunk e-release, chrome work needed re-doing on the grille. That was a couple of hundred.

Last year replaced the 12V battery. Replaced the infotainment MCU/computer and radio. That was a smidge under £2K

Had the front upper control arms replaced in 2021. New front door e-actuators, both sides. Some other bits and pieces. That was around £1200

There was other warranty related work done in the first few years too. Heater matrix in 2020 (that's around £1200 if it goes again). Had some UV treatment relating to yellowing of the screen. Falcom doors were rubbing the past the paint and needed re-alignment, new patches and bump stops fitted,

Lotus reality distortion field ON!

Without the Lotus name, just another Chinese SUV. Maybe a decent enough SUV, but I'm failing to see the Lotusness.

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group website:
The original founder of Lotus, Colin Chapman, believed that lightness was key to the development of great sports cars. This tradition lives on today with large amounts of power tucked into tiny packages, allowing for total driver command and control of the open road or the race track.
I guess I can forgive the Cayenne, Urus, DBX, Purosangue because at least they captured the "music" by coming into production with combustion drivetrains. Based on everything Lotus stands for, literally nothing translates.

Interesting. Not the sort of thing you tend to hear about with electric cars having less to go wrong and all that. However they still have suspension, steering etc. and all of the electronic tech bits are not cheap. And I expect that Porsche bits will be more than Tesla bits. I can't imagine owning a Taycan without an extended warranty.
