I saw an article about Chinese car manufacturing and how they are completely dominating their home market. And EVs are the mainstream choice.
The only importer of any significance is Tesla.

But they are now turning their sights on exports (I'm not going to comment on the political/economic/subsidy side of things here)

Its quite staggering how fast they can roll out new cars.

Also the diversity of those cars.

Here are 3 noteworthy ones that have landed in my news feed just this week!

New MG looks very good.

This Range Rover wannabe can float on water (obviously)

1265hp quad motor estate. 0-60 in 2.07s

That MG looks very cool! Be interested to see if it’s any good in person.

They are indeed. SAIC under the auspices of MG and Geely variously under the badges of Volvo, Polestar and now Lotus. Some tasty BEVs coming out from the latter.

Then we get into the other pure play Chinese marques like BYD, Nio, Zeekr and Xpeng

I am in China right now and am absolutely stunned. I'm in a large city and would say probably 30% of ALL cars are EVs, majority of new cars are EVs. All city buses are EVs as well as nearly all taxis.

Charging infrastructure is insane. Level 2 chargers in almost every parking lot. There are EV only parkades where the attendant will rotate the cars to ensure all are charged.

Here's a few pics. Byd is now rolling out lidar for cruise control I presume. Took a few EV ubers (Byd) and was very impressed with the interior. No rattles anywhere. Not on par wtih porsche yet but definitely miles ahead of Tesla.

As an aside here is a few pic of the high speed train. 350km/hr and so smooth if you Told me the train is going at 80kph I would believe you.

The West is fucked... Lol

Not going to argue about something as subjective as looks but the fit and finish was excellent. Rattles less than my taycan (which has been to shop 3 times for rattles and still not resolved).

You say subjective, I say hideous. You honestly think an interior like this would appeal to US buyers?

That shower curtain material on the dash and door is a, um, nice touch…

Aside from the styling issues, Americans aren’t going to be buying Chinese EVs in mass for a variety of reasons. And there would be bipartisan support in congress for limiting imports from China anyway. Never gonna happen in large quantities.

Volvo/Polestar are a different animal than ground up China car companies, both in reality and in the perception of US consumers.

I'm in Paris at the moment, very few EVs on the streets and those are Tesla. Not a single Taycan seen so far after 3 days. Very few charging points. French gov probably realized that a push for electric cars will damage PSA badly but it might be too late when chinese EVs are here.

I’m in southern Poland at the moment, was driving my Taycan earlier today. Saw a Tesla. Ate a large kebab for lunch. Played some tennis . Now finishing up a bottle on wine. Will go to bed soon. That is all. Will report again tomorrow.

well, American people made the worst car on earth become a Myth, Jeep being terribly cheap looking, with cheap plastic and poor engineering. not to mention all Ford products or Gm.
and Yes it would appeal most of the American sheep.

My 89 Jeep Wrangler was one of my favorite vehicles ever, so you can take your comment and stick it in your Brexit.

For sure the late 80’s to mid 90’s Wrangler is the best engineered. Still see many around of that ERA. Before and after not many survivors (at least in Europe). It was also the most masculine Jeep ever, top pick in the gay community.

Yeah, in 1985. :CWL:

The interior of my 2007 Avalanche was a Rolls Royce compared to that hideous Chinese garbage. If the Chinese are stupid enough to export that mess to the US, I’m sure they’ll sell like coldcakes.

Btw, it’s funny that you pick the US made car with the absolute worst interior (Jeep) as your benchmark for that Chinese junk.
