How does the ABS feedback hardware on the pedal determine when to activate? I'm guessing the sim software doesn't directly signal ABS activation, so is it assumed when there's rapid pulsing of the brakes?
it is actually coming from the software. If you look in what SimHub can do with the signals from iRacing (and others) it is super impressive....it can simulate vibrations for curbs, gear shits, rpms, wheel slippage etc

Thanks- I need to add the relevant hardware to my shopping list to take advantage of that (though TBH I'm not liking the idea of simulated gear shits...hopefully ButtKicker can be dialled back to avoid that).

Hi, I also want to play the simulator, but for now I'm planning to just buy a good gaming steering wheel.

Well I've now got mine and just managed to get it set it up in time to prep for a (real world) track day at Oulton Park.
Cayman GT4 (LHD) in iRacing-

The Cayman GTS (2.5T turbo) I hired, fettled for track use-

As you can see, I aligned the screens only approximately, knowing that there'd be slight movement as the rig beds in (and also I've since got an HF8 seat pad that, if I decide to add it permanently, is thick enough to need the monitors raising at least 25mm- unfortunately I can't lower the seat) and to be honest, I'm never aware of the screen misalignment/gaps when I'm actually using the rig.

I definitely benefitted from getting familiar with Oulton Park on the sim, and can now vouch for the accuracy of iRacing's representation of the effects of all the changes of elevation and camber that are a prominent feature of that circuit. Interestingly, my real experience seems to have now accelerated my performance improvement around the virtual version of the track.

Kit list:
Wheelbase- Simucube Pro 2
Wheel- Ascher Racing F28-SC V2 (plus 50mm spacer in addition to quick release gubbins)- there are many much more impressive-looking alternatives with extra functionality that I'm not sure I'd make much use of, but I had to draw a line somewhere.
Pedals- Heusinkveld Ultimate+ (no clutch pedal for now)
Monitors- 3 x 27" curved, set up to maintain 60cm distance from my eyes
Frame- Trak Racer 120 with integrated monitor stand (I think a separate stand would offer more adjustment, but would have made the space behind even less accessible and I was trying to minimise the load on the suspended floor)
Seat- Trak Racer recliner (the recline mechanism flexes too much for my liking when applying maximum pressure on the brake pedal)

As mentioned, space is tight, it's squeezed in to one end of my den amidst assorted music and recording equipment that is now unusable without first sliding the entire rig out, that was already a tangle of cables which the rig has only added to...

Just a quick update after my real-world day in a GT3 RS at Silverstone- prep on the sim was invaluable as, although I'm familiar with the circuit, I've never sat inside any 911 before, so as iRacing's GT3 Cup car was the closest available substitute, its lack of ABS or TC systems conditioned me to adopt a much smoother driving style than is my norm. That reaped dividends in saving precious real-world track time getting safely up to speed (and avoiding the embarrassment of spinning out from the last corner smack in to the pit wall- as per the many very real tyre marks on track).
Incidentally, my immediate impression of the real car (aside from the glorious sound) was how light the steering was compared with my rig, so I may tweak that- though at my age, I don't want to lose the opportunity to maintain some muscle mass.

That's amazing to hear!

Are you using a specific Simucube profile for the iRacing Porsche? Not sure if you have played with much with those vs other cars, but even in iRacing, driving the GT3 is an entirely different feeling which needs lots of adjustment (I switch races between Porsche, the Ferrari 296, F3 and Super Light Formula) precisely because of how "light" the steer feels in comparison to the others.

I use the "Shums v2 Porsche 911" profile from the online Simucube profiles, and I set my in-game FFB Strenght to 45/50.

I also started with the Ascher Racing F28...and after trying a lot of more flashy wheels I settled on the new Ascher Artura Pro which I think will stay on the rig to the end of its life.

In terms of new toys, I am now expecting delivery for one of these:

:)

Good Q- I've just been to check, and the Simucube profile is "Daniel Morad"...however, I have vague recollection of having tweaked it without changing the name, so I'd need to work through it again in conjunction with his vid. I think my iRacing setting is at max range, again, I need to check. Thanks for the info for another profile and your iRacing setting. No, to date I've restricted myself to exclusively driving the Cayman Clubsport or the 911 GT3 Cup (and even there, the 991.2 version only) to prep for my real-world trackdays, so I hadn't appreciated the differences from other types. In my search for consistent improvement I'm basically wary of every little change in this early phase of my sim experience.

I also started with the Ascher Racing F28...and after trying a lot of more flashy wheels I settled on the new Ascher Artura Pro which I think will stay on the rig to the end of its life.
That looks great and very functionally effective- I think it was recommended me but I was thinking that, as my focus is on test drives plus some AI racing, I could get away with the cheaper option (for now...).

Please let us know how that goes- I'm open-minded to the potential benefits of any form of physical feedback, though confess that after initially testing it, my NextLevel HF8 pad has been waiting patiently off the seat for such time as I feel the need for its benefit (also because it'll be a PITA having to raise the monitors to compensate for the little bit of height it'll add to the seat).
Is it like the Simucube wheelbase in that it requires you to tick a box every time you start up, to say you accept responsibility if it crushes you to death? ?

I ended up shopping Black Friday deals and bought everything at the end of November for around $3500, which I was happy with. But then I was out of town for a couple of weeks. And when I got home, I hurt my back and was out for a while. So, just now getting a chance to start using it.

VR made me sick the first time I hit the brakes hard. But got over it after a few sessions.
