I can well imagine! From my brief research to date, I recognise quite a few of those product names, and am reassured that the pedals and wheelbase I'd provisionally picked are the exact same as yours, and it seems that iRacing is my best option for realism and car/circuit selection.Very happy to help with any info, it took me a good few months and many wrong purchases to get it "right"...
How do you like the Fanatec? That’s what I’m looking at in my budget. I’m trying to do the whole build for <$5k (not including iRacing costs).Fanatec CSL DD wheelbase

I want to start with VR. I’ve been looking at the HTC Vive Pro 2. Open to hearing about options and experiences though.HP reverb G2 has way better image-quality ... FOV is indeed still a downside, sweetspot is ok-ish.
Good to know. Thanks.Unfortunately Fanatec is now in lots of troubles, I would stay away from them, they were the first movers but they didn't really improve their products in years and customer service is shocking these days.
if there are no console compatibility requirements Simagic and Moza are both better option these days.
How does the ABS feedback hardware on the pedal determine when to activate? I'm guessing the sim software doesn't directly signal ABS activation, so is it assumed when there's rapid pulsing of the brakes?- pedals = you have 2 alternatives to the Heusinkveld, Simagic P1000 with their own motors (these add so much realism to simulate the ABS...it is a must for any model) or if you really want to splash the Simucube Active Pedal (having the brake as active is enough...but still £2k for 1 pedal)
