Am I crazy for considering a G580? My Taycan Turbo is approaching the 4 year mark and I'm ready for something new. I'd like to stay electric. Looking for something to sit 5 (with preferably a little bit more space then the Taycan). I also had a Panamera before the Taycan and felt it was a little bit more luxurious - so I'd prefer to go a little bit towards that direction. I have a couple of dealerships I work with willing to get me a G580 at MSRP (most G-wagons require ADMs). I know it's apples to oranges vs. a Taycan, but is it really that crazy? I feel like the G-Wagon makes more sense as an EV then a 13mpg V8.

Another thread from you about switching away from Taycan? Please just sell. It is clearly not the car for you.

It does 13mpg not only because it is a V8, it has supremely bad aerodynamics and ridiculously heavy too.
An electric version with any acceptable efficiency at all would be quite a challenge.

G-wagons are one of those cars that I've always liked the thought of, but just like Landrover Defenders I reckon trying one might be a "never meet your hero" type scenario (not that I'd ever call a 4x4 a hero car for me).

Your post prompted me to have a look as I wasn't aware there was an electric version.

Enjoy:

Wouldn't be my pick. And I believe you guys have headaches with charging infrastructure over there, which would just compound that.

Lol! I love the car, but usually switch cars a lot more often then I have done in this case. This forum has been great for advice, so I tend to bounce ideas here.

An EV Defender sounds good...I wonder when that will happen?

Yes, but I really like the styling of the new Defender.

My sister and brother in law have the "Last Edition" model G wagon, think it's the last V-8. They bought it new earlier this year. It's their second G wagon. They were offered an opportunity to get the new electric model, first one the dealership was getting. I think they have decided to wait until it's been out a year after talking to the dealership. They also have a Taycan, second one they've owned. They've owned a Tesla Model S also so they are very familiar with EV's.

The AMG is staying V8 but the 550 went V6. A lot of dealers are still asking for ADMs on the electric one. I don't think the EV market supports that right now lol

I drive my Taycan 4S year round and while it's not a G-Wagon, I find it to be a great winter vehicle despite its low ride height. With global warming, we don't get that much snow any more in Upstate NY.

I drive my Taycan as a daily also, for all seasons. I'm really not an SUV person either. I had a pre order on a Macan years ago and got it without even test driving it. Never liked it and traded it in a few months after. Really torn on the idea of the G580. I can get one without ADMs but the resale market for EVs is not great right now so I'd lose a ton if I sell it 6mo later.
