Drive modes on the Turbo, do you actually feel a difference in power delivery?

Hi all,

Coming from a 991 Carrera 4S, I'd like to share an observation after my first weeks with the Cayenne Turbo Electric, and hear from other Turbo owners.

On my 991, the difference between Normal, Sport and Sport Plus is massive: gearbox mapping, revs held higher, throttle response, exhaust — you instantly know which mode you're in, with your eyes closed.

On the Cayenne Turbo, honestly, if I turn off the simulated V8 sound, I'm unable to tell which mode I'm in based on power delivery alone. A firm press on the pedal in Comfort feels the same as in Sport Plus. I've since learned that this seems structural: full power is apparently available in every mode, and with no gearbox and instant torque, most of what made modes so distinctive on an ICE simply doesn't exist anymore. The differences seem to live elsewhere — chassis behavior (Active Ride is night and day in corners between Comfort and Sport Plus), lift-off regeneration, pedal progressivity.

One thing I did notice: when switching to Sport Plus, I can hear fans kicking in — I understand this is the thermal management preparing the battery for higher loads.

So my questions to fellow Turbo owners:
  • Do you feel any real difference in power delivery between modes, or is it just me?
  • What differences have you actually noticed, and in which situations?
  • Any settings or tips to get more distinct personalities out of the modes (Individual configuration, regen settings, etc.)?
  • For those also coming from ICE Porsches: how did you adjust to this?

Curious to read your experiences.

In this video here, if I I recall, they got a quicker 0-60 time in Sport compared to Sport-plus. So you might be on to something.

Since you came from a 911, would you mind sharing your thoughts on the ”fun factor” vs your Cayenne Turbo Electric?

Does anyone know why it’s faster in sport mode?

Thanks @Cayven Noir for the video, I dug into the performance data sheet posted below it — and it actually answers the question, in an interesting way.

@kianna : the short answer is that it's not really faster in Sport. Look at the numbers: two runs in strictly identical configuration (Sport+, Launch Mode) show a 43 ms spread between them (2.306 vs 2.349). The gap between the best Sport run (2.279) and the best Sport+ run (2.294) is only 15 ms — three times smaller than the natural variance between two identical runs. The sheet even logs the slope of each pass: the Sport run had a slight downhill (-0.13%), while the slower Sport+ runs were slightly uphill (+0.47% and +0.60%). So this is run-to-run variance, not a mode difference.

But here's what the data DOES show, and it indirectly confirms what I was describing in my original post:
  • 5 launch runs, 4 different configurations (Sport+/Sport, PSM Sport/Off, dampers) → all within 70 ms of each other. The drive mode is irrelevant to power delivery.
  • The ONLY factor that matters is Launch Mode itself: ~0.4 s vs the "Key Up - Normal Mode" run (2.693 s).
  • And that last number says it all: 2.69 s to 60 in Normal mode, no launch, no preparation. The full performance is available in every mode, all the time — which is exactly why the modes feel identical under acceleration. The modes tune the chassis and the pedal mapping, not the horsepower.
Side note: the Launch Mode run in Sport (not Sport+) confirms launch control isn't restricted to Sport Plus on this car.

And one thing that impressed me: 6 launches in 15 minutes at 88°F, and the fastest run was the 5th — zero thermal degradation. The cooling system is doing serious work.
