Shared.
And although the front is almost empty, BMW did not add a frunk.
So they didn't do a lot of effort of trying to get the typical EV advantages developed.

In 2023 I'd prefer a dedicated EV platform.
Isn’t the Taycan chassis evolved from the Panamera?

I cam from an F90 M5 to my Taycan and although I'm underwhelmed by the looks of this, I think with some fettling an M5 version could look pretty good. It has always been a 3-box executive saloon and it's the most successful in the segment. They'd be crazy to try turn it into something else.

Performance on the F90 was tremendous but it wasn't exactly a car you'd turn back to look at in the car park.
Was surprised to see Chris Harris say his F90 M5 CSL was the best road car he'd ever driven.

Also just read an article with a BMW executive who said they heard the design complaints, but essentially had to design for the used car market years from now when the general automotive design aesthetic will have caught up to what they're designing today. OK, fair enough, but then he tried to say that the world had finally started to appreciate Chris Bangle's designs - which is a patent falsehood. Bangle butts will always be ugly.

…….. sorry but looked at their current EV offerings and I just bring myself to accept payment to own let alone part with my money to buy one!

They are as modern in design as their classics!

TBH the E60 aged quite well. At the time, it was as 'normal' looking as a spaceship at a handglider convention. BMW (and Bangle/Hooydonk) definitely brought into the mainstream the 'flame surfacing' of their even-more-bonkers concepts. (Gina?)

The E65 did not.

They share a few suspension component designs, but otherwise a completely new platform
My understanding is that the Porsche J1 platform was derived from the MSB platform that underpinned the Panamera. That’s hardly surprising. It will interesting to see if Porsche now develop a two door 911 ev equivalent based on the J1 platform. The demand would be massive surely?

I picked up a 4 series for my wife. Don't get me wrong, I love my Taycan and its performance but our PCM is such a POS compared to what BMW offers.

I had an i4 for 14 months the idrive 8 wasn’t at all that. Often dropped my phone, the connect app didn’t connect for 10 months as it ended up in someone else’s name (???!!!), the voice recognition software was a misnomer, and the maps software was next to useless but Apple car play worked fine so just used that. I’m slightly dreading the Taycan (next month) if PCM is worse than the i4. But will just fall back on Apple car play. I wonder why Large OEM’s spend billions on the connected software, phone, maps etc when Apple and google do it better? I think they should just do the car communication stuff.

Does you wife signal when turning left or right at junction?
I have seen a Bmw blinking twice today. Probably stolen.
Might have been my [wife's] i4 M50!
Although rare for any vehicle to signal in Massachusetts (but less rare where we live out in Western Mass, as opposed to Boston).

I'm still holding out for a hypothetical i5 M70 Touring, with the larger battery from the i7 and iX.
Probability of that larger battery, and the i5 Touring availability in the U.S. i any configuration ... means I might be looking into the 4CT instead to replace my A6 Allroad and have our household go entirely EV. (That plus Tesla opening its network to CCS.)
