Where have you gone OP..... ?

1 and only message, then 4 pages of (the usual diversified) debate and no response.

I am genuinely keen to learn more about why you are barely getting 130 miles range in winter.
What are the driving conditions / speed / temp etc?

Sounds really weird unless really cold. Have a 4s CT and did 160 miles roundtrip last winter in - 15C. Car was brand new, started from garage around 0C, but had a 6 hour stopover in the cold half way. Expect slightly better now its "broken in"

After catching up on the 4 pages of comments I think the discussion has gotten a bit off track, and that OP should focus on just 2 things --
  • Schedule a Service Visit -- If you are truly getting only 130 miles range in the winter then something is wrong with the battery and/or charging system. A 10-15% drop is more likely, leaving effective range at ~220 miles. Take the car in for service and find out what is wrong.
  • Decide which car gives you the most Driving Pleasure -- Do you enjoy the driving experience of a Porsche or a Tesla? My personal preference is that I wouldn't want to drive 130 miles round trip frequently in a Tesla when I could be driving a Taycan, but perhaps you feel differently. Ask yourself which you'd rather drive.

No disrespect to other posters on this thread intended. There were many valid comments, but I just think the situation isn't that complicated

New to forum. Don’t kick me off for asking this…Porsche guy here. Have 2021 Taycan RWD (my 5th Porsche). Truly have had a passion for Porsches since my teens. Previously owned a Tesla Model 3 performance. Considering trading the Taycan for a Model S. Love the Taycan but the range is not great especially in winter. Live in rural area and commute quite a bit. No charging station on my commute. Even with performance battery plus can barely make it to work and back in the winter. Only 65 miles each way. Summer-no problem.

Anyone gone back to a Tesla after owning a Taycan. Thoughts?

Taycan:
-no better looking car on the road
-compliments daily
-good build quality/handling-all the stuff Porsche guys appreciate
-best AC in any vehicle ever owned
-some quirks, tech not as good as tesla
-kids complain it’s cramped in back
-what is that strange ticking noise?
-don’t know what it is with keyfob battery-but constantly needs replacing
-vehicle occasionally locks me out
-2 electric system failure lights-fixed at dealership
-otherwise reliable

Model S
-great tech and range
-comfortable for family of 5
-better computer than is car
-dated styling (my previous M3P felt like a 7 year old car after 2 years)
-much better app
-that acceleration
Do you have a charging point at home? I have my own charging point and it works the magic. Plus reduced tariff overnight charging, thus 220 miles charge will cost me 8 GBP =)

I'll consider going "back" to Tesla when they produce a sports car that can chase this thing down (see pic) with no compromises for 30-45 minutes on track…so far I'm not holding my breath - even formula-e cars have a hard time running full out for 30 minutes - ICE sports cars can be run solid full tilt all day every day and are simply amazing for their reliably, stamina, repeatable performance basically indefinitely modulo consumables…

my Taycan can do about 7 laps full pace before "needing a rest" (1/2 a normal track session) - and my Model 3 performance was about the same with track mode…

give me an EV all day every day for street duty - but you still need a highly evolved ICE for any serous track duty - if you don't believe me check out my avatar pic - I track all my cars equally - and no matter how much I love my Taycan it's no track car…

There is nothing fishy!

The OP has one message, and one thread! It's clearly a paid by T guy to keep the T junk SM advertising going.
It's okay, arguing is fun.

Hey, <random previous poster>, whaddayamean by "Porsche sucks at xyz", I'm here to tell you that my xyz is absolutely fantastic; 'abc' on the other hand..

the funny thing is I can tear down a Taycan from a Tesla fan boy perspective soooooo much better than any of these trolls - or a Tesla from a Porsche fan boy perspective

both vendors have pro's & con's - it's all a matter of what you want to focus on

personally I love my Taycan but not my Tesla's so much, but they serve a purpose and I simply shake my head every time I supercharger and wish for better days w/Taycan - but then I drive my Taycan and don't worry about charging it so much.

all what you wanna focus on…

I hear you, and i half-picked a fight earlier myself. Someone (shall remain unnamed, but there are many) keep railing against Porsche's "software", and it just drives me up the walls. Nvm that the car has fully software-controlled power delivery, the battery management or even the charging protocols, none of which are trivial bits of code. But they can't save a preference and that is, somehow, "software" instead of an example of user experience. Just different philosophies - that is all.

Agreed, comparing Taycan to Tesla (mostly Model3 performance) is an invalid comparison. Presently in my garage is a BMW X5 for those long trips hauling all sorts of stuff between locations, a 2023 Taycan , wife's car cost $121k, a 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance, my local car cost $52k and a 2023 Turbo S. All great cars and perform wonderfully for the reasons they were purchased. If you're cross shopping luxury EV's Tesla would not likely be in the mix conversely shopping for a budget EV within the $40-60K range the Taycan would not be a consideration.
The Taycan and the Tesla are terrific cars within their markets, I enjoy both.

My biggest grip is software, I can't believe how far behind they are after 3 years of major annual updates. My profile should remember evey setting I change (suspension, sound, regen, drive mode, seat position (sometimes it does but usually doesn't), etc. I shouldn't have to press the Homelink button for 2 seconds to open the garage door when I pull in the driveway, it should just happen like it does in a Tesla. I shouldn't have to power off the car or lock the car when I walk away, it should just happen like it does in a Tesla. I shouldn't have to wait 2-3 minutes before Spotify starts playing, it should happen instantly. Not to mention autopilot and the supercharger network....
Sorry, but I don't like this whole "it should just happen" thing and I don't think it's a fair criticism. Sometimes tech stuff "just happens" and causes all sorts of other problems. I want some flexibility. If anything, my Taycan gives me too much, with so many air conditioning directions and stuff, for instance. It may be annoying to figure out how long to hold the homelink button down, but I'd be freaking pissed if my garage door opened automatically just because I was approaching it. Maybe the stray coyote that has been recently spotted in the neighborhood just happened to be sitting outside my garage and his eyes glare in my headlights as I go up the driveway... I'd love to not let him right into my garage because "it just knows" it should open. I'll leave off every other worst case scenario of why I want to decide what to open or close and when.

Leave it to a Tesla fan to call Porsche a cult. That's just silly! The only cult I'm a part of is the one who just can NOT close the charging port door without the red reminder, over 99% of the time. Every. Damn. Time.

The majority of time, Tesla software gives you the option, for example, every time I pull in my driveway my garage door opens automatically (it doesn't have to, but I have it set to). But if I don't want it to even when it's set to, it gives me the option of "skipping auto open" every time I pull in the driveway.....so just because you think something is better just because it's how Porsche does it.....doesn't make it right. People should have options and that is what Tesla gives you.

Again, good software gives options to people who want things done automatically or not.....which is what Tesla does.

Thank you for clarifying that it gives you an ability to disable the auto-opening on the spot. I had a safety concern, not a brand concern.
