There are so many interesting cars that are in the cusp of rolling out, but the chip shortage and supply chain issues are slowing down roll outs. I am on the waiting list for a Rivian, but that car will not deliver until first quarter, 2023.

Once I get that car, my new CT4s, which should be delivered later this week or in the middle of next week, and the Rivian truck will be the perfect balance of EV's for me.

I also don’t quite understand your posting. I speak from experience with almost 4 years with a Tesla S. You sound quite insulting about Tesla owners, if I am understanding this. Oh well, I guess it takes all kinds.

I was poking at FSD. A feature people for years have been paying extra to get - sometime in the future. Now there is a beta and I find it hilarious.

I don’t have any opinions besides this on Tesla as I avoid everything Tesla for ethical reasons.

I had a beloved 2018 Tesla Model S, and my hubby (who is a “car guy”) persuaded me to get a 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo. What a MISTAKE! I have had the Taycan for just over a month now, and completely regret going to the Porsche. I could argue that the Taycan doesn’t have Apple CarPlay either, as mine rarely comes up connected. I have done numerous connect/disconnects and “forget this device” to try to get it to come on. As a matter of fact, the display screens on the Taycan are blanked out (including the climate control) and cameras more than they come on. I have had the Porsche Nav come up in German (the search bar), and I am completely dissatisfied. At least with Tesla, regular SW updates got rid of any glitches that showed up. With Porsche you get the “old school” bring it in to the service department of the dealer as if it was a burnt spark plug issue or something. If anyone wants to buy this Porsche abomination from me, so I can go back to Tesla world, I would be happy to oblige!

I drive a Tesla model 3 LR since last 6 months now and trust me, not a single bug or issues at all.
Its fast, clean, superb sound quality and acceleration is so good. Not to forget the price, its epic price.
Now my taycan 4S will arrive next month, which has costed twice of a Tesla model 3 LR and looking at all those issues and PCM bugs around this forum, really is making me worried.

If price is what you are indexing on, you shouldn’t be looking at a Porsche, regardless of whether you are buying an ICE car or EV. As for the rest, Dave’s post is spot-on.

I'll be paying cash for a second hand Model 3 (new has a five month lead time, so not bad, but I need a car from beginning July), with a view my Taycan arrives latest of Q2 next year, at which point the Tesla will be offloaded to the highest bidding dealer. Obviously prices are inflated, but Model 3s are depreciating quite consistently at 10% annually. Tesla is likely to increase prices again by autumn, so that depreciation could slow further.

I also anticipate demand for EVs will soar as the cost of gas skyrockets ever further. People will actively look at trading in their ICE cars for an ever dwindling supply of EVs. That is bullish for second hand values.

My gamble is that buying will be cheaper than renting an electric car, not least as the best I could get that is reasonably priced is a VW ID.3 through the major providers in the UK. With that choice, I would much prefer the Tesla and renting a Model 3 is easily £1,100+ a month.

If I buy the Model 3 outright, after 12 months it is very unlikely it will depreciate £13,000+. Additionally, it's a company car I don't need to finance, so won't lose out paying interest on a loan either.

Rivian's look exciting and perfect for more rugged terrain where the Taycan would be unsuitable. You have some exciting big toys on the way!

I was also considering a new Cupra Born as an interim before the Taycan arrives. A launch in the US in planned. It's being coined as the first "hot hatch" EV. Good range for the 77KW model and based on the ID.3 platform. Also more "affordable" EV for those of us fortunate enough to afford a Taycan!

However, I still think the Model 3 on balance is the most suitable interim car for me.

There are indeed some very exciting EVs rolling out, but then that goes hand-in-hand with the chip shortage. Hopefully supply chains normalise in the next few years, but the transition to a better future for humanity is not without its challenges.

This really depends on what you are expecting. I should say that if Porsche wasn't making an EV I probably wouldn't have bought an EV, I would have bought a 911.

I've looked at/driven Teslas, and for me personally, they have zero appeal. I'm retired now, but I've worked in the software engineering/data science field for over 40 years. My hobbies still include playing with data and software projects, and lots of Raspberry PI projects among other things.

When it comes to a tech fix I have dozens of devices, computers/tablets/phones/etc, at home I play with.

In a car, I want to listen to music and get basic information. For me, the Porsche software exceeds my expectations of what I expect from automotive software, even the driver assistance features. So far I've only had one issue with the PCM, which was having to relog to get Carplay to work after an OTA update, not a biggie in my book. The driving, design, etc. of my Taycan are sublime and it makes me smile every time I take it for a spin.

P.S. I should also add that the one screen to rule them all Tesla approach leaves me completely cold.

Same here. And I once wrote SW which runs on the Model S and X (or at least used to, dunno if they swapped it out).

My main issue with the Taycan actually has been related to hydraulics (air in the brake lines). Driving it is like getting the best of ICE and EV worlds whereas driving the Tesla just felt weird like a fast bulky golf cart.

Thanks for providing some perspective, in that this isn’t an endemic problem, although there are a lot of forum entries with experiences like mine. Perhaps people without issues don’t post because they are out having fun driving their Taycans. I would rather sell at this point, my confidence is completely shaken, particularly with the issue that the car wouldn’t turn on, and I was stranded in a dark parking garage by myself. Glad you are enjoying your Taycan experience.

Sure, People who are not happy are basically less than 1% of the dissatisfied crowd but tends to monopolize the forum with their problems creating a perception that 90% of the cars are bad. This however doesn't mean you don't have issues, but you just need to escalate to Porsche those issues. They are the one able to fix the problems. The sofware works very well for 95% plus of the users out there, so I do not think this is automatically a software problem but sometimes it may just be a faulty connector or faulty cable or a faulty printed circuit board which they will all tend to create all kinds of intermittent and differents problems. Porsche will be able to evaluate all those issues and eventually fix the problems. I have mine for 4 months now with 10000 km and no problem whatsoever and certainly no problem with the software. I do not use Apple CarPlay however as I prefer the Nav application of the car and I am not a fan of having to play with my phone while driving. For your information, many car manufacturers have been struggling with CarPlay as well. So this is not just a Porsche issue. Try using a cable connection instead for CarPlay. Also, if you have the insulated noise glass, the cell signal is attenuated and unless you are in an area with a very strong cell signal, your phone should be positioned in the Porsche armrest. There is an external cell antena connected to the phone pocket of the armrest which will help amplify and improve the cell signal. This is useful if you like AppleMusic which is internet based.

Try using a cable connection instead for CarPlay.

Very good advice. I plug in my iPhone and put it in the console before each drive and have had very few issues with CarPlay.

sometimes, it might be annoying (carplay), but all driving-related stuff works!

Except my instrumentation cluster (main dashboard in old speak). Makes driving fun when you can't see your speed among other things ...
