A NO-OPTION Porsche Turbo? For real? Yes, in fact a Cayenne EV launch vehicle I am going to see tomorrow. Here is its Monroney. I was surprised to see its range at 303 miles, not the 298 we have earlier seen on Turbo window stickers.

This is likely the dealer forgot to put any options in the allocation and it locked. They might have a pretty hard time selling this. Loaner vehicle time?

We have so far seen Monroney’s for two Turbos, one with 298 miles range the other with 303 miles. Considering we repeatedly saw videographers who were Porsche tehcnical staff briefed, each video saying between 9 and 11 more miles for the Cayenne EV coupe, that is 310 miles rangefor the Turbo coupe. Adding that same average 10 miles extra for a base Coupe, that would give it 327 miles….

Considering my 2024 Macan EV Turbo has a Porsche listed range of 283 miles, I will be pleased will another roughly 27 more miles range for the way more powerful Cayenne EV Turbo. Of course bigger battery size is the key factor, but +27 miles is always good.

In fact my guess is they will be significantly over - not just a hair over the turbo with the more efficient configs. Why? It doesn’t make sense relative to the WLTP ranges in the European configurator - or the physics of the car - that the S is nearly identical to the Turbo for range, it should be closer to the base model. I suspect Porsche - perhaps ill-advisedly- selected a thirsty config for the S EPA testing and a moderate config for the turbo, resulting in similar range. When you push each to its most efficient configuration, there will be more to gain on the S.

When I model the range of an efficient Cayenne S based on CARB and WLTP data I actually get over 320 (324+-). We will see Monroneys soon, and I was wrong on the low side with my Turbo predictions, maybe my S predictions will be wrong on the high side.

Dug through and found coupes with Monroneys.

326 base / 316 S / 302 Turbo

none have the most efficient wheels; we’ll see if they separately certify a range configuration of the coupe also.

But something yet does not add up, for I saw a Turbo’s Monroney, SUV version,standing right new to it in the showroom and reading it myself,with 301 mile range on it, yet Porsche repeatedly claims the coupe version gets 9 miles more range because its CD is 0.23 instead of 0.25 for the SUV.

I also went to fueleconomy.gov a few hours ago and still nothing on the Cayenne EV yet.

when Porsche does EPA testing, it’s not with a generic “Cayenne Turbo”, it’s with a specific config.

The config they use for the coupe need not be otherwise matched - it could have more or less efficient tires and wheels for example. I think Porsche just has to say that it’s “representative” of what they will sell (not sure if or how that’s audited over time).

The S should have quite a bit more range than the Turbo, but they are nearly identical (in the SUV bodies). That suggests that Porsche chose a relatively efficient configuration of the Turbo SUV. The fact that there is such a small delta to the Turbo Coupe suggests that the specific Turbo Coupe configuration was relatively less efficient than the Turbo SUV in ways other than body aero - wheel aero or tire rolling resistance for example.

It’s apples and oranges being compared for sure, and the hidden variables aren’t labeled.
