Video Description:

The Porsche Cayenne Electric's wireless charger is actually genius.

I was wrong about wireless charging - leave it to Porsche to prove that it's not only possible, it's logical too. Level 2 home charging with a wireless pad is fast, convenient, and efficient - in some cases, even better than wired charging. After having my questions answered by Porsche's engineers, I took to Spain's glorious driving roads to break down the current status on wireless charging, an option Porsche now offers with the new Cayenne Electric.

The video will discuss:
1. How efficient is wireless charging actually?
2. How does it compare to wired Level 1 & Level 2 charging?
3. How does wireless charging work?
4. What about unique scenarios?! A cat runs under the car while charging, or a person has a pacemaker? We'll break down the strategies Porsche has implemented with their charger.

In a future with autonomous cars, wireless charging could provide a real solution to the charging problem, which currently requires a human to plug the car in.

How frickin lazy has the human species become? This seems ridiculous for home use. Now if all cars were equipped and parking spots everywhere could charge that would be useful as the equipment would be more reliable. The AC charging capabilities would have to be upped by at least 20X.

IMHO this is very cool tech that will hopefully become industry standard and less expensive. Kudos to Porsche for making it work.

Is it difficult to plug a car in?: No.

Is it more convenient to just park in your garage and start charging? Yes

the most interesting point in this entire video is Porsche stating that wireL1 charging is only 60% effective vs. 96% efficient for wire L2 charging…

this perhaps provides insight into their bias against L1 charging immortalized in writing for a Taycan North American charging bulletin…

the efficiency numbers for various charging are at about the 6:50 time stamp in the video as my data source…

also the video did not address the cognatie dissonance for north american Porsche EV's being neutered to max 9.6 kW charge rate even though they probably have an 11 kW OBC…but the wireless charging is still being touted as 11 kW - will the Cayenne be max L2 charge rate of 9.6 KW for a wired EVSE but 11 kW for the wireless pad???

will be interesting to see what Porsche does here…
