Will do Dave.

Your GT3 just stays at the track doesn’t it? I assume the same for your RS then?
my current track car will be teh 911 GT3 RS currently teasing me from germany - it will be 15% street duty and 85% track duty - when we want a sports car for scenic drives on the california coast my wife's red convertible gets 'the call'...

I am currently with out track car given that I traded my 2018 GT3 in Novemeber to free up funds for the incoming GT3 RS…

I can't wait to get a track car back for 2024.

No Lotto win so I guess I'll just keep drooling :)!
you simply need to embrace the bankruptcy and let it wash over you, through you and then exit your mind/body/spirit - besides they can't throw you in jail for running out of money can they???

tldr; there's a reason and it's not weight - it's the factory Magnetic Shifter Paddles - as to why you can read below - I'm weak and pathetic and really really don't want to have to do this f**ker over…so I made zero compromises…there are like less than 2000 (I don't know this for a fact, but GT3 RS's are typically very very small volume in terms of total units produced - historical numbers are less than 5000 or even 2000 units world wide for any given "generation") of these things that are ever going to made - so given my personal weaknesses I just "checked the box" - but there is a reason…read for more.

the WP editions will be an even more rare "fraction" of that population - historically the WP GT3 RS have demonstrated excellent price resilience and are highly sought after on the used market - in particular when that generation of GT3 RS ceases production…tracking value in this space shows significant mitigation of normal used car depreciation - and they are a "hoot" mechanically on track and ever so slightly more extreme for track duty vs. the non-WP GT3 RS's…

WP is cheaper than ordering another GT3 RS to 'get it right'…

given my weak-ass pathetic temperament I have terrible regret when I compromise on something, and even worse regret when that compromise presents itself frequently - i.e. I'm always reminded that I didn't get what I really wanted and it eats and me and plays against my weaknesses…

the WP option is the only factory way to get the 911 GT3 CupCar magnetic shifter paddles - for those that don't know these paddles have been mechanically engineered to with in a nano-meter of their life to deliver and demonstrate the most satisfying mechanical click known to man - it causes extreme pleasure to "pull" these paddles…and they are highly sought after and extremely rare given their association with low volume race cars and Porsche's insistence of only including them with the WP…

I hate/respect Porsche Marketing sooooooo much - but damm they know exactly what they are doing…

IMG_1774.jpeg

also getting an RS allocation is very very very difficult - so doing this car "over" is really not an option…
  • now I currently do a 1:37.xx lap @ laguna seca race way - 97.xx seconds from start/finish to start/finish (I hope in this car to get to/below the 1:35's
  • there are 11 turns at laguna seca - and for each turn there are at least 2 pulls for downshift, and 2-3 pulls for upshift
  • so that is 5 paddle engagement on average every 8.8 seconds
  • that's 55-66 pulls every 97.xx seconds or on average one pull every 1.5 seconds…
  • average track session is 25 to 30 minutes - 14 laps on average
  • 14 * 66 pulls = 924
if I had not gotten the WP (and therefore the magnetic paddles) every single track session @ Laguna Seca for example I would remind myself nearly 1000 times that I "wimped" out and didn't "do it right"…
  • 6 sessions a day = 6000 times a day I would be reminded I didn't get the WP and really can't order this thing "over"
  • 3 day track weekend (common) - 18,000 reminders I wimped out every 3 days
  • 8 track weekends a year = 144,000 reminders a year - I didn't get the WP
    • round up to 150,000/year for street driving
  • 4 years owing the car = 600,000 reminder's - I didn't get the WP…
  • cost per-reminder = $33,000 / 600,000 paddle engagements
  • $0.055 per shift over the life of the car - if I only keep it 4 years.
for a nickle a shift I got the WP - cause I'm weak and pathetic and would be reminded every time I'm in the car I didn't order it "right" - but I could've.

no I had to get the WP for my personal sanity - and beside's even at it's cost, it's cheaper than ordering the 2nd GT3 RS (which you can't get) "to get it right"…

but yeah - WP {sigh} gotta respect Porsche marketing…those f**kers know exactly what they are doing…

ask me why I ordered the "blue wheels" that i really don't like…but there's a reason there also.

I can't wait to get this thing on track…

funny thing is sometimes I'll drive this car to the track and home again, other times it will be trailered - when I trailer it I will drive my lovely 2020 Taycan Turbo to the track - alas it has no paddles…ROFL.
You had me laughing pretty good Dave! ?. I love the self deprecating humor. You know exactly what you want and apparently what you need for your sanity. Congratulations again on a beautiful build and car. Hope you get to enjoy it for years to come.

@daveo4EV said “8 track weekends a year = 144,000 reminders a year - I didn't get the WP”

Now that, kids, is how you really do man maths. ??
I just went back and read all of that. Dave has this all figured out. ?

But I’m curious about the blue wheels now…

But I’m curious about the blue wheels now…
I'm a huge fan of blue cars - so the incoming vehicle is Shark Blue - not my first choice but the only 'factory" blue available for MY'23 911 GT3 RS's - PTS was _NOT_ an option for MY'23 cars…

there is "deck hardware" on the back of the GT3's engine cover - hinges for access to the fluids and the rear wing has active aero-dynamics (DRS) - and the cylinders for the hydraulics are metal - _IF_ you order blue wheels - all of this hardware will also be "blue" - if not it's graphite steel colors - seemed ashame to order the car in blue and not get this hardware also in blue to completment the color of the vehicle…

now the blue of the wheels is "off shade" from shark blue - so the combination of shark blue + blue indigo wheels is not my favorite color combination - so the wheels were ordered for the "deck hardware" anodized in blue - the only way to get it done as a factory order…

I've circled the "blue hardware" hinges in the render below…but in all honest it's the bigger and more visible hydraulic cylinders on the wing that I was going for…note the wheel color description from the Porsche website…

if you order the wheels in "red" - the deck hardware (hinges & cylinders) will be anodized red…

give the "one and done" nature of a rare order like this - every detail of this cars build was meticulously agonized over and each decision was not taken lightly - but I hope to track this bad boy for at least 4 years if not longer - so I wanted it to be "just so"…

for a track weekend I'll go to track with 2 sets of wheels+tires - one set of wheels on the car - and one set of wheel with new tires off the car to swap out Saturday or Sunday morning - so I'm going to get the 2nd set of wheels in a color combination that is more to my liking - so even though these wheels are not my first choice, the car will only have them on about 50% of it's life, the other 50% of the time it will be my alternate 2nd set of wheels and tires - and I'll go with a good contrasting color

but I did it for the colorized deckhardware/wing-hardware which can only be a factory option with the wheels as I ordered them…again Porsche seems to know exactly what they are doing and I both love and hate them for it…

found a picture of the GT3 RS wing with the rear hydraulic in "red" - mine will be blue because I ordered the wheels in blue…this car must have been ordered with "red wheels" - so that's how the wing hardware is colored RED…

I wanted this hardware to be blue on my RS - and the wheels were the only vector to make that happen - this shot also has a good view of the "hinge" hardware in red - which will be blue on my vehicle…

Yeah, I wanted PTS Gulf Orange, but ran into the same issue. But I’m happy with guards red. I see what @DerekS sees in it now.

Did you have a preferred PTS blue you missed out on?

Nope...Guards Red is my color, I'm making do with Carmine Red as they still won't make Taycans in Guards AFAIK.

I had it down to 4 or 5 blues - I don't know what I ultimately would've gone for - because I wasn't forced to "lock the order" and make a decision - but I was learning this way…the indigo blue wheels and blue decals with blue hardware I think would've been killer - but my other choices were equally compelling with some of the darker almost purple blues just being stunning on this vehicle.

@RAHRCR
+1 on GTS convertible.
And get a manual!

I haven’t driven my Taycan since I took delivery.

OMG that is perfect in every way. I can't lie - I _hate_ driving a 4 door car. More than once I've considered getting into a 911 again...I miss the Targa badly. But I also don't want to go back to ICE life.

I hope Porsche makes more EVs soon.
