My wife has been driving a Model S'es since 2016 (I started in 2013, switched to Taycan this year). We've been shopping recently for replacement for her 2018 Model S. She wants an SUV for her next EV. I think she had her heart set of Model X as she likes her Model S and Model X would be most familiar alternative, but after she test drove it, she eliminated it as a possibility. It felt so cheap, plasticky and whatever physical controls are left feel like a cheap knock-offs which will not last long. And this is compared to a 2018 Model S, not to a Porsche, Audi, Lexus, Mercedes, or other luxury brand.

So perhaps the best way out of the cult is to go test drive Tesla's latest flagship product (S/X). ?‍♂

My first Model X (one of the first delivered) was amazing. Good build quality, great seats, outstanding all around. My next ones sucked. Build quality went way down and felt all around less solid. Gone were the cool 2nd row seats, and the benefit of folding them down never helped me. Service is also now impersonal, although mobile service was good. Second one bricked on me while 10 hours away from home on vacation in middle of pandemic so incredibly hard to get replacement vehicle. They wanted to tow the car to Florida as it was closer than DC, but then I would have had to get it back to DC on my own dime. I had to pay to tow to DC instead. And then Musk started opening his mouth. No thank you. Never again. No twitter twats for me.

I think we need to start our own car company…with the innards of a Tesla, and the suspension, fit and finish of a Porsche.

I was hoping that’s what Lucid would be….then I saw the ugly front end and trunk (and metallic roof….and laggy software and on and on)

sadly no silver bullet. I may hold off until the mid-cycle Taycan refresh (2025…26…27?). Audi’s mid cycle refreshof the etron SUV beefed up the battery by a good 25-30%…so maybe there’s hope? I also don’t think Porsche (having been vocal in acknowledging it) will stand by the substandard software for long. By then we should see the 718.

My 325km borderline is because I feel like my Tesla lies to me…..so going anywhere with “100 km” in the tank is a big No No, as I can see it quickly dropping. From what I gather here, the Taycan seems pretty reliable in its estimate
