I am from Singapore where a base model costs 434k USD. Coming from a base Taycan 2024, this beast is an amazing machine. Smooth and super comfortable, my family have been enjoying it a lot more than the Taycan. But somehow I missed the sportiness and high G acceleration… Carrera White Metallic + RS Spyder rims + P Zero + standard trim

I’ve recently watched the new series of Grand Tour on Prime. They went to a mind boggling car dealers with the cars in what looked like a vending machine ! They said that due to taxes a Mini was £ 125k so no wonder the Cayenne is so much.

Basically two kind of taxes: Certificate of Entitlement (COE) which is a “license to own a car” that is open bidding to anyone, currently at 103k USD + Preferential Additional Registration Fee (PARF) that is pegged to 3x the market price of the Cayenne so it’s around 247k USD. Hence a base model here in Singapore cost a couple times more than a Turbo in the US

Surely that’s neither normal nor fair? Only the very wealthy can buy a car; what is the rule or the intention behind this?
My fully loaded Cayenne Turbo Coupé costs just under 200k, taxes included—and I live in Belgium, one of the worst countries for taxation...

I guess it’s an effective way to limit the number of cars on Singapore, which is a very small island with an extremely efficient public transport system. Cars are luxury here and the premium cars are taxed much higher. The demand for cars are also consistently high, therefore pushing up the overall taxes.

Hong Kong heavily taxes new cars too, although not as much as Singapore. My UK Coupe base was £ 106k, HK it’s £ 185k.

Congrats! I’ve been enjoying the Cayenne EV in Singapore for a few weeks now. I’ve been taking it out for some midnight spirited driving from one end of the ECP to the other these past few nights! (late supper fix is just an excuse to drive the car lol. )

To get the high-G feel and maximum sportiness, I’ve been driving it in Sport Plus with the suspension lowered and the chassis set to its stiffest setting.

Car prices in Singapore are insane. I paid close to US$425k for this factory order. Unpopular opinion: I don’t think keeping COE and taxes high is necessarily a bad thing. Without those costs, the sheer number of cars on such a tiny island could lead to traffic gridlock far worse than what you see during peak hours in Thailand.
