There was a Cayenne Roadshow in Slovenia yesterday. 8 Cayenne Electrics, mix of base and turbo, as well as two 911 (one was turbo s!). I got a chance to drive 911turboS and two of each models of Cayenne.
It was a whole day event with 4 groups of people in total. At the end of the day, all Cayennes had driven 250-260km and they were all around 50% SoC. In those that I checked, consumption was high - 28-30kWh/100km. Not surprising considering the driving environment (push-to-pass, motorway, open roads...).
TL;DR Cayenne Base is enough for everybody, unless you really want to stand out.
The power of turbo is out of this world and you do get used to it. After a few accelerations, body adjusts and you start handling those insane speeds. I mean, 80-200km/h happens in an instant, but only if you really want to. It is brutal first time you do it. 911 turboS has the same acceleration to 100km/h. I would describe the diff as; in Cayenne turbo it's more brutal, but elegant. In 911 it's just drama all over the place; the sound, the shake...
Do you need it? No. You can't drive like that almost anywhere. While Cayenne has an insane grip, the amount of information the brain needs to process at that acceleration is just too much.
You can get Active Ride only in turbo and only in Comfort mode. It's nice, but the car feels odd and you lose even more of that sporty feeling. It's like a box that doesn't move. If money is not a problem, sure, get it. But I guess if you are getting turbo, money is clearly not a problem.
If you care about money, base gives you everything you need. Excellent comfort, same interrior and the only thing you'll miss is couple of party tricks. You can easily drive base in Sport mode all the time; comfy and responsive. Phenomenal family car.
On all cars the steering is very direct and rear wheel steering is a must have. I would even say that Cayenne is less wobbly than Macan. Infotainment is different. I did not spend much time with it, but it's done so that much more things can be done on default panel, without going into submenus. Sport sound has its own button on the main cluster, and the speed warning has Mercedes-like shortcut in top left corner of infotainment screen.
I understand that everybody's taste is different, but one option I would avoid is Offroad package. It makes front quite odd looking.
I'm afraid I don't have many photos as I was busy enjoying the drive, but if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
I'm happy with the order I made back in Decmeber and can't wait for delivery next month. I'm trading Macan EV for Cayenne EV base.
