    [opinion] - hmmm…VW/Audi/Porsche may be in trouble…

I missed this point - what exactly makes Macan EV a lesser car than Macan ICE? It's not a actual Porsche unless it has an exhaust rule, might as well be a Hyundai? EDIT: nevermind, misread the OP

Easy to take the Macan 4 and stick a Macan S badge on it. It will take on any actual Macan S from a red light with ease.

Because Macan EV tops out at a higher trim than available on Macan ICE. Even by Porsche naming convention Turbo is a higher trim than GTS. When you look at the specs between the two, it's clear. Bottom line is if you're not looking for the bottom of the range, and you are shopping for specs...

Correct. As I said earlier, if majority of Macan buyers choose the cheapest, slowest, base SUV with a Porsche badge, then yes, Macan EV is more expensive. Now the question is what percentage of Macan ICE are base trim.

Comparing apples to apples: In the US Macan 4 starts at $78,800, a comparable spec, though slightly less powerful, ICE Macan S starts at $76,200. So the difference is $2,600. Is that considered much more expensive on an $76K car?

2WD base Macan EV is significantly more powerful and faster than 4WD base ICE Macan. Power and performance has always been the marketing differentiator between Porsche trims.

Read beyond the first sentence of my post. The main point is that the Macan EV offering starts with higher specs, and the 12K or 20% is the comparison of base models (again, mentioned further down in my post). It would like saying Taycan Sport Turismo is $50K or 50% more expensive than Taycan...

I don't see it. In the US Macan 4 starts at $78,800, a comparable, though slightly less powerful ICE Macan S starts at $76,200. So the difference is $2,400. Is that significant on an $76K car? If you are willing to go 2WD and forego 20hp (out of 375) but still have better torque, the base Macan...

I don't disagree. I don't think hydrogen in the form that has been tried by car companies to-date has been practical either. Production-to-car hydrogen is never going to be practical. Heck, at this point in human civilization, I think also any new type of fuel that requires new type of...

I wasn't saying it's a better solution than EVs, nor even that it's a viable end-to-end solution, simply that it is possible to create an internal combustion engine that will not pollute. If we start including costs of production and distribution, there is nothing that humans produce and...

Energy density of gasoline is approximately 12.2kWh/kg, which translates to 9.7kWh/l. So your calculations are off quite a bit. https://chemistry.beloit.edu/edetc/SlideShow/slides/energy/density.html As much as 80% or more of energy from gasoline is lost as heat from an internal combustion...

EVs can damage their own lubricant too. Properly combusted hydrogen should not create any NOx emissions, and if you really wanted to be sure, just provide both pure hydrogen and pure oxygen to the engine, mix before combustion, there cannot ne NOx emissions if there is no N.

Took me a decade to convince my parents. Two years after finally caving, they are 100% sold on their Model Y. They even do long distance trips in it now. Sadly, their friends are still on the ICE bandwagon, one relative is sincerely afraid to be in an EV due to a fear of it spontaneously...

While I can see the argument of Taycan being a heavy car and a sedan, so 911 offers a much different track experience, I am a little puzzled why someone would pick an ICE Macan over EV. Is it that Macans are sold mostly to people who don't have garages where they could charge their cars at home...

So yes, Elon could keep Chinese cars off the network in the US, but if Chinese cars do come here, they would probably want to build out their own, including Nio battery swap stations. None of it will happen any time soon - Trump proved the US market can be very volatile, change wildly based on...

You seem to be assuming that all that Chinese cars have over traditional auto manufacturers is price advantage. While they do have that advantage, that has never been a problem for Porsche. They always sold cars for more than other brands, with similar features as daily drivers. Other VW brands...

Traditional automakers are having a hard time with new casual driver user experience. This is further compounded by EV drivetrain, leaving engineering organizations applying ICE concepts to EVs, such as an accessory more which turns on electronics but not the ICE engine, therefore not air...

It appears to be based on someone's direct experience. Do you have any sources which contradict any of it? PS> I happen to own a Q8 etron and can confirm they did reuse a bunch of stuff from their ICE cars. For example the car has an extraneous "Accessory Mode", where everything is on except...
