Another option could be looking into a side-mounted garage door opener. You have a high ceiling, it'd be a shame not to install a lift/stacker in there at some point. :) (It would solve your more immediate issue as well, but you can "amortize" the cost with future expenses, too.)

    Taycan GTS vs M5 Competition

I skimmed this thread, so forgive me if it's been said before: is it really a 'cost'-based decision? Because that'd be pretty easy to settle using 'enthusiast math': - one would be a "used deal", whereas the other is a made-to-your-order car. If you're looking for a deal, then the answer is...

Porsche Mission X Electric Hypercar Concept Revealed!

"Has Sir purchased a 918, or a Carrera GT from us in the past - preferably one of each? No? Desolated, we can't accept a deposit at this time.. or at any other time." The CGT was the usual Porsche self-doubting (back then) - they were tired of just winning Le Mans all the time, had an aborted...

Porsche Mission X Electric Hypercar Concept Revealed!

They took a major design turn with those 'light elements' (more precisely, a 90* turn). Not sure what's next - we've been through "4 dots in a square", "4 horizontal lines", "4 angled lines in an x". Might need to go the Peugeot/Adidas way and add another row.

Please help! Let’s imagine the new Macan EV comes out in 2 versions...

This is, obviously, subjective but also changing. I used to detest stopping on long trips (the 6-7 hrs kind) because I was "losing time/progress". But I'd arrive tired, drained and glad to have arrived. It was even worse for cross-country trips (well, TX/CA/NV to WA). And then there was the...

    BMW i5

TBH the E60 aged quite well. At the time, it was as 'normal' looking as a spaceship at a handglider convention. BMW (and Bangle/Hooydonk) definitely brought into the mainstream the 'flame surfacing' of their even-more-bonkers concepts. (Gina?)

    BMW i5

Nah, the Honda needs more grille surface and unnecessary creases; the BMW is still unmistakable.

Politics at the top in VAG

Herbert who? Also, one could say that VAG is still not fully arrived into their electric future.

"Volkswagen’s troubled software division is getting new leadership. Again." -Article

A few points: - valuation is a point-in-time measurement, influenced by just about anything from facts to fantasy; it's also only loosely related to compensation (in general, but very much related to that in tech companies) - the next 3-4 companies by market cap are all purely or mostly software...

"Volkswagen’s troubled software division is getting new leadership. Again." -Article

This is a bit unfair - tech has enormous margins, whereas auto mfrs - the very best of them - scrape on by with 20%. Further, tech stocks are a huge part of compensation and, aside from Tesla, not many are doing that great in that regard. P911 has shot up, but it's still early - the key is in...

"Volkswagen’s troubled software division is getting new leadership. Again." -Article

Ack, that's why I said the mid-layers really need to be software people. Towards the very top it tends to be less about the technically-correct questions, and more about business aspects (costs, timeline/promises etc.) Right, that's what I meant as well (but failed to clarify). Tech is still...

"Volkswagen’s troubled software division is getting new leadership. Again." -Article

To be fair, the problems - in software, at least - rarely originate with, or get solved by the top/head people; some make the wrong strategic bets, but it doesn't seem to be the case at Cariad. They do have a problem of execution, and perhaps an issue with naivety - their aspiration to become a...

    Garage Remodeling/Upgrading Feedback.

I got me one of these: Tire Rack Rolling Tire Storage Rack - it's a bit bulky, and still presents the challenge of lifting wheels for the upper shelf but it's a great product.

    Garage Remodeling/Upgrading Feedback.

Excellent topic, I haven't seen (m)any threads on this. Will watch with interest. Prepare for a salvo from Cpt Obvious, but it (really) depends on your scenarios/intended use. That is, a garage optimized for detailing will look a bit different than one where you rebuild engines (of either kind...

    911 to Taycan?

Well, yeah. I have one, and as it happens it needs an engine rebuild. I took a long hard look at the market before deciding to proceed with the rebuild. C4S and turbos have indeed taken off, but the rest not so much. It’s going to be forever “the 20k 911”, now slightly adjusted for inflation...

    911 to Taycan?

Except for 996s.. ?? This ^. I’d say the Taycan is not a replacement for a 911 in any way, but I guess that depends on what one “gets” out of a 911 (or which specific series/model/trim is being compared).

Electrify America CEO-Elect's Coast-To-Coast Road Trip using EA charging stations - Video

Funnily, reports like yours are exactly what I had in mind - what you call rural NY or FL still have a much higher population density than the areas traversed in this trip (or any cross-country one). (Tidbit: SC pop density is 160/sqmi, CO is 51.) You're right on this: "reason why the most...

Electrify America CEO-Elect's Coast-To-Coast Road Trip using EA charging stations - Video

Well, it wasn’t a documentary ?. And tbh most of the negative reports we read around here are in densely populated areas (on the coasts) which make x-country trip reports a bit less relatable.

Electrify America CEO-Elect's Coast-To-Coast Road Trip using EA charging stations - Video

What's that old racing adage? "If you're not accelerating or charging, you're wasting time." After several road trips, I figured the most aggravating aspect of charging is dead time - waiting for a charger, battling app/car issues (whether it's PnC or trying to find the fastest dispenser) - it's...
