I got my 911 back on the road (not a 997, but close - 996.2), and I absolutely can’t wait to drive it again after every drive. Won’t replace the Taycan as the daily/utility vehicle, but Fri-Sun drives of any kind/for any reason are automatically going to the Elf. I’m positively thrilled it...
And if there were any doubts, the camouflaging confirms it - it’s the same pattern!
(yes, am kidding)
What’s not a joke, though, is the split-headlight styling on the new Avant. (Will they call it “the EVant”?)
Audi. Look at the shape of the rear lights - the ending splits in a fishtail/chevron reminiscent of the e-tron GT’s. The pronounced rake of the upper trunk edge, and some of the visible taillight does suggest BMW, but it’s also too busy (lots of little leds, very Audi).
Ciao @Crazymind - mine’s back on the road. Happy to report it’s a thrill to drive, any worries about the Taycan eclipsing it were gone in the first minute.
Indeed the driving position is uncannily similar, and the hip as seen from the driver’s seat is absurdly thin compared to the Taycan’s.
It probably comes down to use cases; with "open" tiles the floor looks cleaner, but the dirt is there (underneath). With "closed" flooring, you always see it, and it's a forcing factor to clean the mess.
I got mine precisely for the wintertime mess; snowmelt/water trickles under and out of the...
Cool thing about the tiles is that you can cut around areas that are fixed/built-in.
Note that RaceDeck has 2 tiers - the upper one (FreeFlow XLC) is comparable in quality with SwissTrax’s RibTrax Pro, and what I’d recommend if you work in the garage. Also, if you’re in the US, note that RD...
RaceDeck has occasional sales with pretty significant discounts; SwissTrax - not so much, 1-2/year with a modest price cut. With either, I’m told that calling and speaking with an agent can yield better prices than advertised on their websites.
A big advantage (for me) with plastic tiles is...
That looks very nice, but the cost of tiling a garage would probably be prohibitive in the US (i reckon .5 to .6 2020 Taycan 4s). And I’d worry all the time about dropping a wrench or dragging a floor jack.
Forgot to mention: the SwissTrax flooring can feel in uneven places as a plasticky...
The brand-name products (SwissTrax or RaceDeck) have interlocking channels which drain the water towards (downslope, garage front usually). There’s nothing for mold to adhere to - the plastic tiles are smooth, and the garage floor is (usually) sealed concrete.
One of my pet peeves in the winter...
Congrats @Crazymind - they're cracking cars. Can't wait to get mine back on the road.
Surprisingly frugal, these cars; ~3000lb, long 5th and 6th gears, i can get ~330mi on long trips, from the standard ~17 gal tank.
You must have the extended/endurance tank? 21 or 24 gal?
Gratuitous shots of...
Non-California-residents don't have much of a reason to comment; having said that, we all ought to be concerned about regulations that CA chooses to impose on new vehicles; afaik an entire coalition of (US) states automatically adhere to CA's clean standards. If they can make the case that lower...
I jumped straight to the bottom, and still didn't see the Taycan.
FWIW, I had to charge my car to full earlier today - estimated range at 100% SoC was 213 miles. I used ~17% for 37 mi (aborted ski trip ), which comes to a revised range of ~217mi. <checks something quick> Yeah, that's...
