I'm all ears ... please, explain, if it's not a secret?
I am not going to put my business on display but when leasing a 140k car you are not putting 140k on the table initially or for the life of the contract

OK,no problem.... just wanted to learn something new.
In my country, if you lease a 140k for (let's say 3 years), you are putting 140k on the table.... for that given period. No difference if you are individual or company.

How come? As a collateral in case the car disappears???

No, it has nothing to do with theft insurance.
It just looks that our "leasing" market works different, I don't know.
That's why I was interested in to learn how leasing looks in the States.

If I lease a car, I can choose the lease period (for instance 3, 5, 7 years), then I have to pay my part (depends on the car, dealer, financial incomes, etc...), something like 20% (up to 50%) of MSRP... while the rest is divided on monthly payments.... with the last payment, I own the car.

There are also some other applications, like:
- about 20% of MSRP in cash
- up to 50% of MSRP goes on monthly payments
- after three years, you can extend lease for additional three years (or you can sale the car for value known from day 1), etc...
(Of course, there are some interests on MSRP as well.)

In some special arrangements, you can get some additional discounts (especially for EV) from a leasing company, etc... But bottom line is: if you lease a 140k car, you will pay 140k.... sooner or later.

I always buy my cars in cash in full, but what you describe sounds like buying the car on credit, that is not what leasing means.

A leasing contract usually means a small payment upfront and then regular monthly payments, and when the lease is up, you return the car, that's it.

It is leasing and it's called leasing contract... since the owner of the car is leasing company.
If you take a loan/credit, then you are owner of the car from the day 1.

I am 71, after years of running at least one sporty car I was considering going for comfort but hopefully with reasonable performance and handling that was maybe not as taut as what I was used to but not like a boat.
If I hadn't test driven a Taycan the EQS would have been a candidate but the Taycan was a revelation. The comfortable ride, handling and instant throttle response make it tailor made for my taste.
I knew an EV would be heavy because of the weight of the "fuel tank" but the only disappointment in the taycan is the actual width and length. It hides it well driving but I know I will have to be much more carful on Oxfordshire roads than any other car i have owned and a lot of places I go I won't be able to park and also get out of it, sadly.
I hate wide cars...
The EQS isn't better on this metric!

I'm in the same boat, as you, my friend, and have one year on you. Had lots of cars, sporting, prestige including a new S Class and most of them were good even great BUT once you drive a Taycan you are smitten - it is something else entirely. Come on, it is a sports car AND a practical vehicle. Range or no range, as a driver there can be no competition for how it feels. We are talking drivers in this forum, aren't we? Why are we comparing with a stately saloon? Maybe if the Taycan had not been born I might have considered but, at (a sporty) 72 an EQS would not now cross my mind.

Sounds like just a difference in terminology. I’m not how sure how it works elsewhere but when you see people talk about lease in the US its usually a contract situation where the residual value of the car after the lease term is predetermined and you pay the difference (plus “interest”) over however many months. You then give the car back after the term (or buy it out at the agreed upon price).

Financing would be taking a loan out for the full value then paying it off plus interest over the loan term. At the end the car would be yours.

Easy math example - you lease a car thats 100k for 36 mo. They determine the car will be worth 50k in 3 years. You pay ~$1389 a month or 50k over 3 years and then return it when that term is up or buy it for the remaining 50k.

(oversimplified just for illustration - there are other factors involved)

And yes I will take the EQS for a drive - love the interior hate the exterior. Excited to see whats coming though!

Thx for explanation, it's clear now.
You actually pay for usage of new car for the period of x years.... and the cost of that is difference between new and old vehicel (+interests).

Regarding EQS. Exactly my thoughts: amazing interior, boring from outside.

EQE looks better but does anyone think that hood is attractive? The lines just don't flow

Sso, EQE is meant to be “baby eqs”; same interior, just shorter dimensions?

Will definitely try the EQS with the AWD configuration. That car will be a little faster (0-60 in little over 4s or so). My lease comes to an end in little under 2 years - by then we should have the EQS delivered for a while, so no more first year production issues. Will also look at the EQE if they make a decent high end option.

The more I see it, the more I get used to the idea. There is a chance, that I really like it. EQE compare to EQS has for sure much nicer proportions overall. For some reason, it looks to me like a very modern sleek stylish Audi! :headbang:
